This has been confirmed through interviews with multiple former employees of the company, and its purpose was allegedly to report false information to investors.

With Roblox itself stating nothing more than this is “simply incorrect,” it doesn’t seem like they have much to say about it. But that’s not the worst thing that has come out regarding the platform. Because along with that, it seems that the platform’s moderation is not preventing, or is unable to prevent, the safety of children on their platform.

According to findings by Hidenberg Research, several game experiences based on sexual predators like Jeffrey Epstein or P Diddy, which display sexual or inappropriate images for children, are accessible in the game for people of all ages without any verification. Similarly, in multiple chat rooms, they observed images of children being sexually abused being shared completely publicly. All of this, along with numerous spaces they considered specifically designed to expose minors to pornography, violent content, or even abuse or conditioning to suffer it.

This, together with the number of bots on the platform, leads Hidenberg Research to estimate that the actual number of Roblox users has been inflated by between 25% and 42%, and the hours spent in the game by up to 100%. However, this is the least of their problems considering their lack of control or moderation against all forms of child abuse or its propagation.

In this regard, Roblox has considered their platform to be safe. The reality is that Bloomberg, already in 2023, reported 13,316 cases of child exploitation on Roblox, in addition to two dozen people who have been arrested for abusing minors after contacting them through the game. In 2024, not only does it not seem that the situation has improved, but also, Roblox seems delighted to continue turning a blind eye and deaf ear to what is happening on their platform as long as they keep making money.

Roblox has created an AI model that, according to them, translates text chats so quickly that, at first, users don’t even realize that it is translating messages from other players.

It works with 16 languages: including English, Spanish, French, Japanese, Thai, Polish, and Vietnamese.

The goal is for everyone to be able to communicate

Dan Sturman, CTO of Roblox, stated in an interview with The Verge that the goal is for Roblox users to feel more comfortable interacting with each other by allowing them to understand what they are saying. The translator automatically translates the chats, but users can click on an icon to see the original message.

“We know that engagement increases when users speak or interact with others in their own language,” explains Sturman. “We took that concept and removed the language barrier with automatic translation.”

Roblox started building a large language model (LLM) based on transformers, which was trained with public and internal data. They placed the LLM within a mixture of experts (MoE) architecture, an environment that ran multiple translation applications, each expert in a different language.

This allowed Roblox to save resources without the need to create a separate LLM for each language. Sturman claims that, given the scale of the project, his team believed it was easier to build their own model than to modify a standard LLM.

Sturman explained that Roblox monitors chats (for trust and safety reasons) and can receive feedback if the translations are not exactly perfect. He added that the implementation of chat translation AI “does not change anything in our privacy and security process, and prohibited words will continue to be blocked.”

A new game of Five Nights at Freddy’s is coming to Roblox. Or to be more exact, it has already arrived at Roblox, even when it shouldn’t have. Something that its creator, Scott Cawthon, has defined as “one of the most incomprehensible, insane things that have happened in my ten years working on FNAF”.

Roblox players discovered last Wednesday that there was a new Five Nights at Freddy’s game available on Roblox. Its name was Five Nights at Freddy’s: Survival Crew and it was an asymmetrical multiplayer horror game in the style of Dead by Daylight, but replacing the iconic horror movie killers with the animatronic robots from the franchise. The problem is that the game shouldn’t have been released when people found it. Because it’s not even finished.

According to Cawthon, the game is basically in its early stages of development. It’s not just incomplete, but its assets and gameplay are still temporary. It’s literally a test version, not even a beta, that should never have been released to the public.

How is it possible then that it leaked in this way? Although it is not clear, the most likely explanation is that Cawthon approved a skin and that was interpreted as the game being released. A not exactly minor misunderstanding and one that, of course, we understand qualifies as one of the most incomprehensible and insane things he has experienced in his ten years developing the game. Because it makes no sense.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Survival Crew is still in the Roblox store, but it is listed as a beta version. The game is expected to officially release at some point in 2024 and, while it may no longer be a surprise, it will surely still make fans of the franchise happy.
