Square Enix has kept a low profile regarding the development status of the third part of Final Fantasy VII Remake, but director Naoki Hamaguchi has shared some details that suggest the project is still progressing. During his participation in the Brazil Game Show 2025, Hamaguchi expressed his confidence that the game’s ending will be satisfying for both fans of the original 1997 title and new enthusiasts who have joined the saga through recent installments.

An impossible game in less than three installments

Hamaguchi emphasized that the decision to split the story of Final Fantasy VII into three parts was made in order to narrate the saga appropriately, using new technologies without cutting the essence of the story. “It’s a game with a truly large fan base. If we wanted to tell this story completely, it wouldn’t be possible to do it in a single title,” he commented, reaffirming Square Enix’s commitment to the community’s expectations.

Regarding gameplay, the director indicated that, although there will be no radical changes, new features are being implemented that will offer a different experience from what players have seen so far in the series. This intention for evolution is also reflected in Square Enix’s multiplatform strategy, which, according to Hamaguchi, will not affect the development of the installment, thanks to the adaptation to the technical differences between consoles, including PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S.

Finally, the development team is optimistic about the progress the game has made so far, describing it as “to perfection”. Although Square Enix’s official silence on the project prevails, Hamaguchi’s statements suggest that fans can expect an experience that “will be loved by all”.

The creator of Final Fantasy Tactics apologizes for the lack of languages in the new remaster of the game, stating that he will fight for their inclusion

The recent remaster of Final Fantasy Tactics and Octopath Traveller 0 has generated discontent among fans, as both titles lack a Spanish translation. The recent remaster of Final Fantasy Tactics and Octopath Traveller 0 has generated discontent among fans, as neither title has a Spanish translation. This decision by Square Enix limits access for a significant segment of players who do not master other languages such as Japanese, English, German, or French. Despite being considered classics of the JRPG genre, language barriers could affect the commercial performance of Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles.

Matsuno always fighting for the players

Yasumi Matsuno, original director of Final Fantasy Tactics, has addressed this issue on his Twitter account, apologizing for the lack of support in Spanish. Matsuno, who has worked as a writer and script supervisor on this remaster, has expressed that he has communicated to Square Enix the need to include more languages to broaden access to the game. Although he cannot guarantee when this translation will be implemented, he urged fans to be patient while the situation is reviewed.

This is not the first time that players have encountered a lack of support in their language, so many point to Sega and Capcom as positive examples, as they have successfully translated several of their titles into Spanish, including the iconic games of the Yakuza series and the Ace Attorney franchise. This suggests that Square Enix has the opportunity to improve its image through similar decisions.

Meanwhile, the gaming community has taken the initiative, creating their own translations and dubbings of other titles such as Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core and Kingdom Hearts, highlighting the dedication of fans to fill the void left by the developers. The lack of an official translation could be a significant oversight that Square Enix will need to consider in future releases.

Bandai Namco acknowledges that they are having trouble making remasters of Tales of: they don't know where the source code is

The remastering of the classic games in the Tales saga by Bandai Namco faces a significant challenge due to the lack of source code and master data from the original titles. The remastering of the classic games in the Tales saga by Bandai Namco faces a significant challenge due to the lack of source code and master data from the original titles. This inconvenience is not exclusive to the Tales series; in fact, Square Enix experienced a similar problem when reconstructing Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles. The project director, Kazutoyo Maehiro, confirmed that the absence of such data complicated the remastering. The situation is similar for Bandai Namco, which now has to investigate the location of the source code and who manages it, according to the series producer, Yusuke Tomizawa, at the Tokyo Game Show.

Playing by eye is quite complicated

The lack of detailed documentation and the work of multiple studies in the development of the series have made the search and analysis of the original data a prolonged process. Tomizawa admitted that finding the relevant information can take months and, once found, often presents gaps that must be filled before being able to proceed with the remastering.

Despite these challenges, Bandai Namco announced the Tales Remaster Project as part of the celebrations for the 30th anniversary of the series, starting with the release of Tales of Graces f Remastered in January. The next title on the list is Tales of Xillia Remastered, scheduled for October 31. Bandai’s strategy does not follow a strict chronological order, but rather focuses on efficiency, opting to remaster first those titles that are easier to adapt.

Tomizawa also said: “I know some fans might be thinking ‘What is the release order?’; however, this non-linear production responds to the speed and quantity of releases.” Meanwhile, JRPG fans eagerly await the arrival of these remastered versions, which celebrate one of the most beloved franchises in the genre.

Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth was a small failure on PlayStation 5, but its director says that the arrival on other platforms is another story

Director Naoki Hamaguchi has assured that sales of Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth have improved since a financial report from Square Enix, published in September 2024, revealed an initial poor performance. In statements to Automaton, Hamaguchi emphasized that the second installment of the Remake has performed successfully on both PS5 and PC. “I know some fans have expressed concerns, but please rest assured that we will be able to deliver a high-quality third chapter,” he confirmed.

A game that has managed to take flight

The development of this third game is already underway, with Hamaguchi indicating that much of the content is playable and that the team is focused on refining the game. “The direction and shape of the game are firmly established. At this moment, the team is united around perfecting everything,” added the director.

It is important to note that both Final Fantasy 16 and 7: Rebirth showed lower sales performance according to the financial report from May 2024. This report, prepared before the releases of both games for PC, raises questions about Square Enix’s release strategy. FF16 arrived on PC 15 months after its release on PS5, while Rebirth made its debut on the new system in January 2025, almost a year after the console version.

Square Enix has expressed its intention to “aggressively pursue” a new strategy to attract PC users. This includes the plan to launch titles such as the third part of the Final Fantasy 7 remake simultaneously for PC and consoles, in a move that contrasts with past mistakes related to temporary exclusives. This strategy could mark a significant change in the way the company approaches the market, seeking to adapt to the demands of current players.

Changes are coming to Final Fantasy XIV, but not as many as fans would like

Naoki ‘Yoshi-P’ Yoshida, producer and director of Final Fantasy XIV, has announced a significant update aimed at highlighting the uniqueness of each job in the battle content of the popular MMORPG. However, his statements have generated confusion and concern among the community. Yoshi-P indicated that for those players satisfied with the current state of the game, nothing will change, which has left many in doubt regarding the depth of the changes that will be implemented.

Fans don’t know what to think

In an interview with PCGamesN, Yoshi-P assured that although a unique expression for jobs in each patch cannot always be offered in the main narrative, significant work is being done on an update to enhance that individuality in combat roles. However, the mixed reception of the latest expansion, Dawntrail, has been noticeable, currently holding mostly Negative reviews on Steam and not meeting player expectations regarding job individuality.

Yoshi-P also mentioned the possibility of Final Fantasy XIV incorporating a housing system, similar to that of World of Warcraft, with special techniques for decoration. This could be an interesting step to increase customization and community engagement.

Despite Square Enix’s ambitions, many fans have expressed their disappointment on forums and social media, questioning the apparent contradiction between the promise of significant changes and the assurance that nothing will change for current players. Some believe it is crucial to address the homogenization in the works, and they hope the company truly listens to the concerns of its user base. As development of new updates progresses, it remains to be seen how Square Enix will balance these two dimensions: innovation and player satisfaction.

Borderlands 4 will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2, but with numerous compromises

The highly anticipated game Borderlands 4 will arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 3, as announced by Randy Pitchford, head of Gearbox. In a video directed at fans, Pitchford confirmed that the physical version of the game will come on a game card, omitting the traditional cartridge. It is important to note that even physical copies will require an additional download, a change that has sparked some debate among enthusiasts of physical game formats.

A version that you might not want to play

Despite Gearbox initially promising that Borderlands 4 would run at 60 FPS on the new console, Pitchford now points out that the game will mostly run at 30 FPS, with some drops during intense battles and multiplayer sessions in handheld mode. “It was important for us not to cut anything and to support cross-play with other platforms,” Pitchford explained, emphasizing that the player experience remains a priority.

Another topic that has generated interest is the performance of Borderlands 3 on the Switch 2, which has been the subject of criticism since its release. Pitchford acknowledged that this title was not optimized for the new console, and emphasized that Gearbox intends to improve its performance, although at this moment the studio’s focus is fully on Borderlands 4.

The announcement has not only generated excitement among fans of the franchise, but it also reflects a trend in the industry, where major developers like Square Enix and Capcom have opted for game cards instead of traditional cartridges. Despite the controversies, fans continue to show interest in the new release of Borderlands, awaiting more details in the coming days.

Vivi Ornitier is the protagonist of Magic: The Gathering, he receives an illustrated novel and fans are wondering, is a remake of Final Fantasy 9 coming?

Vivi is probably the most beloved character in the history of Final Fantasy. This is very evident with the prominence he is currently having in Magic: The Gathering with its new Final Fantasy collection, with Vivi Ornitier being the most played card from the new collection. But that’s not all. Because Square Enix knows that the character is very popular and Final Fantasy IX is one of the most acclaimed installments.

Vivi Ornitier, the protagonist of Final Fantasy in 2025

That’s why Square Enix has announced a new prequel book based on the beloved character Vivi and his grandfather Quan, which explores their story along with beautiful illustrations and a recently revealed teaser trailer. The book promises to provide answers to some of the most intriguing questions about the characters from Final Fantasy IX.

The story reveals the origin of the name Vivi, explaining that it comes from the measurement corresponding to her height, which is six feet and six inches. In a funny twist, Quan measures Vivi from her feet to the tip of her characteristic pointed hat, resulting in the figure VI, VI, an unexpected connection that has led many fans to reconsider their interpretation of the character’s name. For more than two decades, followers of the story had assumed that the name Vivi had a more significant meaning, possibly related to the Latin word “viviente”.

All of this coincides with the recent release of the Final Fantasy collection of Magic: The Gathering, which recently had its Protour, won very appropriately by a Japanese player: Ken Yukuhiro. Although his favorite Final Fantasy is V, he had to face many Vivi Ornitier to rise to the prize. Winning, indeed, with a card that could not be more fitting for Final Fantasy V: Self-Destruct.

It also coincides with the fact that speculation about a possible remake of Final Fantasy IX remains alive. Fans are optimistic, especially in the context of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the original game, an event that has fueled rumors about various projects in development. Although the remake of Final Fantasy IX has not yet been confirmed, the importance given to Vivi Ornitier by releasing a book telling his life or creating a particularly powerful card in Magic: The Gathering has sparked hope in the gaming community.

Additionally, the special website created to commemorate the anniversary has hinted that “several projects” might be in the works, adding to the renewed interest in the saga brought by the Magic: The Gathering collection, which has led many to speculate about the future of that hypothetical remake. Meanwhile, the prequel book and the various Vivi cards from the Final Fantasy collection are an excellent complement while fans eagerly await official news about it. Especially now, as Vivi Ornitier is one of the most played cards in Magic.

Two retro classic RPGs that you can enjoy thanks to Xbox Game Pass

Square Enix is widely recognized for its legacy in developing classic RPGs, highlighting iconic series such as Final Fantasy. Recently, the company has expanded its access to genre classics by including Legend of Mana and Trials of Mana on Xbox Game Pass, offering subscribers the opportunity to relive these nostalgic experiences.

The Magic of Retro Games

The remastered version of Legend of Mana retains its retro presentation, maintaining the visual style of its original release while updating graphics and interface elements. This title, originally released on the PlayStation, allows players to explore a world designed in their own way thanks to its episodic structure, which offers various routes and the possibility to create their own world map. However, its less guided nature can make progress difficult without an external resource, which is a characteristic feature of many RPGs from that era.

On the other hand, Trials of Mana has been completely transformed into a 3D style, preserving the original story but altering the presentation and gameplay. Its remake, released in 2020, features a class system that offers flexibility to players to upgrade their characters to advanced classes. This particularity adds a strategic level to combat, allowing for unique customization of the team.

Both titles, although different in focus, represent two valid approaches to reviving classic RPGs. While Trials of Mana stands as a modern reimagining, Legend of Mana remains true to its retro essence. With these additions, Square Enix not only celebrates its past but also makes it accessible to new generations of players.

Nobuo Uematsu confirms an open secret: Square Enix's drift was due to the loss of one of its most important figures in 2001

Nobuo Uematsu confirms an open secret: Square Enix's drift was due to the loss of one of its most important figures in 2001

The merger between Square and Enix in 2003 was profoundly affected by the financial failure of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, a landmark film that simultaneously became the catalyst for a series of internal problems within Square. Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of the acclaimed Final Fantasy saga, left the company in 2001, a decision that, according to composer Nobuo Uematsu, had devastating consequences for Square’s organizational structure.

Without Sakaguchi Square Enix has not been the same for 20 years

In a recent episode of his podcast Together with NOBIYO, Uematsu, who has been a collaborator of Sakaguchi since the 80s, recalled the profound influence that the latter had on the company. “The organization simply collapsed after he left,” Uematsu stated, adding that the lack of strong leadership was immediately noticeable. “He has always been the great boss,” he concluded, reflecting the admiration that his followers and colleagues feel towards him.

The premiere of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within in 2001 turned out to be a financial fiasco, which not only eroded confidence in Sakaguchi’s management but also delayed the planned merger with Enix. This marked a critical moment in Square’s history, which was experiencing its worst times just before the merger.

After his departure, Sakaguchi continued to be credited as an executive producer on several Final Fantasy games until 2003. Uematsu, for his part, left Square Enix in 2004 and, although he has worked as a freelancer, his musical legacy remains alive in projects developed by the studio Mistwalker, founded by Sakaguchi, where he has contributed to titles such as Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey.

These events have left an indelible mark on the company’s history, signaling a significant change in its direction and future in the video game industry.

The successful cleaning simulator PowerWash Simulator has come to an end in terms of active developments, with the release of its latest free update by FuturLab, called The Muckingham Files. Since its first appearance in 2023, this series of updates has added increasingly varied levels, including a space station, a dessert parlor, and an aquarium, totaling 100 available cleaning jobs, including several expansions.

An emotional return to the origins

This latest content invites players to return to the subway station of the original game to conduct a thorough cleaning of a train, as well as a sculpture in a sculpture park, which includes a giant gnome. The update marks a significant closure for the title, allowing players to enjoy a nostalgic return to one of the most iconic settings of the game.

As PowerWash Simulator bids farewell, FuturLab is gearing up for the development of PowerWash Simulator 2, announced in March. With the completion of PowerWash Simulator, the future looks promising for fans of the series, who can expect new experiences and challenges in the sequel, which will bring a significant revitalization to the concept of cleaning virtual environments. Thus, the cleaning simulation genre continues to demonstrate that it can offer refreshing and entertaining experiences, reaffirming its place in the world of video games.
