One of Sony's biggest recent failures could have a sequel

Bend Studio, known for its acclaimed title Days Gone, is in an uncertain moment after a decade marked by failures and project cancellations. The constant desires of the community for a sequel to Days Gone seem to be fading, despite the recent remastering of the game, which has raised more questions than answers about the future of this IP. While many players hope to step back into Deacon’s shoes, all indications are that their hopes may not materialize.

Bend Studio does not give in

The situation is further complicated by the recent failure of a canceled game as a service, which has led to staff cuts at the studio and a reevaluation of its future. In this context, Bend Studio has posted a job offer seeking a creative director for its next project, emphasizing the need for experience in multiplayer game development and design. This move suggests that the new title could focus on providing a more robust online experience, possibly attempting once again the path of a game as a service.

Although the new vacancy does not clarify whether the project will be completely online or will combine a campaign with cooperative or competitive elements, the community continues to cry out for a Days Gone 2. Some even speculate that this offer may be related to a cooperative mode within the Days Gone universe. However, there are no confirmations regarding this, and the studio’s past failures make their situation even more delicate.

With time as an ally, Bend Studio fans and Days Gone followers will have to wait to see what the next project from the Oregon team materializes into, while uncertainty continues to prevail in their near future.

The CEO of PlayStation Studios confirms that PlayStation will continue to have exclusives, although with some caveats

Hermen Hulst, CEO of PlayStation Studios, has confirmed that the company will release at least one flagship single-player game each year, starting in 2025. This news comes in a context where the PlayStation 5, launched almost five years ago, has been marked by a strategy focused on games as a service, which has failed on various fronts. This has led to a notable shortage of exclusive single-player titles on the console, raising concerns among fans.

Big Releases on the Horizon

Among the upcoming releases, Death Stranding 2 stands out, which will be exclusive to PS5 and is scheduled to launch soon. Another important game is Ghost of Yotei, set for October 2, 2025. However, not all anticipated titles will arrive in the short term; projects like Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Wolverine and other developments at Naughty Dog are still in early stages. Fans may have to wait some time before seeing these promising releases in action.

Sony’s strategy has faced criticism, especially after the cancellation of several games-as-a-service projects from studios like Bluepoint Games and Bend Studio. Naughty Dog also chose to halt development on The Last of Us Online to focus on creating high-quality narrative experiences. This decision underscores the importance the company places on single-player games, although recent cancellations have raised doubts about the future of certain studios within PlayStation.

On the other hand, launches like Marathon and Fairgame$ are planned, scheduled for 2026, in an attempt to diversify the game offerings. Despite the cancellation of more than seven titles, Sony continues to bet on games as a service, indicating a clear intention to balance its catalog with titles of different kinds. With several projects in the works, patience seems to be the key for players in this transition phase.

With the new patch for Days Gone Remastered, the gameplay will be on point

Fans of Days Gone have reason to celebrate, as the game has received a significant patch that promises to improve both gameplay and visual experience in its recent remastering. Developed by Bend Studio and published by Sony, this patch raises the game’s version to 1.025.809 and focuses on optimizing the experience for the PS5 Pro. The developers aim to provide players with the best way to enjoy this cult title by enhancing its performance and graphics.

Thinking about the second part

Among the most notable improvements is a focus on balanced mode, which offers optimized performance, while enhancements have been made to the PSSR to ensure that players experience exceptional visual quality. This attention to detail reflects Bend Studio’s commitment to the gaming community, responding to their feedback and needs.

Likewise, the integration of the DualSense control has been revised, allowing for a more immersive and comfortable shooting experience, which will undoubtedly impact players during intense confrontations with the Freakers. In fact, the volume of these enemies has been increased when they are near the player, making them easier to detect and increasing the tension in the game.

The patch also addresses several performance issues reported by the community, as well as bug fixes that include a fun solution to an animation glitch where Deacon could launch himself into the air in an unusual way. Beyond these fixes, the user interface of the Horde Assault mode has been adjusted, reflecting player feedback.

With these changes, the remaster of Days Gone has excited its followers, who hope for the possibility of a sequel in the future, although for now, that remains an uncertainty.

Days Gone, the open-world title set in a zombie apocalypse, will return this April with a remastered version, after being released in 2019 with performance issues and mixed reviews. Although the game enjoyed a community of followers who have advocated for a sequel, its developer, Bend Studio, canceled an ambitious project costing approximately 250 million dollars and several years of development.

A remaster that promises significant visual changes

During the State of Play in February 2025, it was announced that Days Gone Remastered will arrive on April 25, offering specific graphical improvements for PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles. This new version will allow players to choose between two modes on the base PlayStation 5: the Performance mode, which will run at 1440p and 60 FPS, and the Quality mode, with a native resolution of 4K at 30 FPS. Additionally, a later patch has been confirmed that will add a 40 FPS option for compatible televisions.

For those with a PS5 Pro, the game will offer up to 2880p in Quality mode and an alternative mode of 1800p at 60 FPS, thanks to improvements in graphical representation, such as lighting and shadow quality, which have been highlighted by Kevin McAllister, creative director of Bend Studio.

In addition to the visual improvements, the remaster will include new game modes such as permadeath, where players will have to start over upon dying, and a speedrun mode that will track the completion time of the story. A horde assault will also be introduced, facing players against waves of up to 800 enemies. Players who already own Days Gone will be able to access this remaster for a cost of 10 euros, although those with the PS Plus version will not be able to upgrade to the new version.

Sony cancels a new God of War due to the failure of its new business plan

Sony continues to strongly invest in games as a service (GaaS), a model that aims to keep players engaged through multiplayer experiences with recurring content. However, this strategy has led the company to accumulate several failures in this area, the most recent being the cancellation of two unannounced video games developed by Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games, according to Bloomberg. Sony cancels a new God of War due to the failure of its new business plan

Sony continues to strongly bet on games as a service (GaaS), a model that seeks to keep players engaged through multiplayer experiences with recurring content. However, this strategy has led the company to accumulate several failures in this area, the most recent being the cancellation of two unannounced video games developed by Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games, according to Bloomberg.

These cancellations occur in a context where PlayStation has shown a history of failures, including titles like Concord and The Last of Us Online. More concerning is that one of these projects was from one of Sony’s star franchises: a God of War GaaS developed by Bluepoint Games. Despite this, it is assured that there will be no layoffs at either Bluepoint Games or Blend Studios, and both will continue working on new projects.

The gaming community hopes that Sony learns from these stumbles in a competitive market. Despite having canceled a total of nine GaaS projects to date, the company has invested 2.13 billion dollars in this sector and continues to develop titles such as a Horizon MMO and Fairgame$, a multiplayer heist shooter that was showcased at the last PlayStation Showcase.

Even though things didn’t go well this time, they continue to bet on GaaS

Additionally, the acquisition of Bungie for 3.6 billion dollars highlights the importance of this company in Sony’s strategy for games as a service. Bungie is working on Marathon, a multiplayer shooter expected to be released in 2025. Meanwhile, NetEase is focusing on a Destiny game for mobile, which could also come to PC.

Despite the setbacks, the story of PlayStation in the realm of games as a service is still far from over, with several initiatives on the horizon that could change its fortunes in this risky business model.
