A tremendously successful change
The reason for this is that, when they had been developing for six months, they saw the potential for the movie to become a franchise. It was Kristine Belson, president of Sony Pictures Animation, who suggested they change the tone to a more family-friendly one, realizing they could make a movie that would reach a much wider audience. This opened up the possibility of turning the movie into a full franchise and, with it, making much more money.
Belson proved to be right, given the success of the movie. A success among critics and the public that is spreading like a transmedia franchise with merchandising everywhere that, at the same time, has won an Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Something that very few commercial successes achieve.
Now, Sony has greenlit a second part. KPop Demon Hunters 2 still does not have a release date, beyond a generic 2029. Its director claims that “she feels immensely proud, as a Korean director, that the audience wants more of this Korean story and these Korean characters”. Promising that “this is nothing but the beginning”. It seems that, indeed, that change from the original idea was a good idea.

Fortunately, Netflix came to the rescue and the rest, as we now know, is history. After 5 seasons and 2 of its prequel and spin-off Berlin, the streamer is not willing to let go of its gold mine, so it’s the perfect time to look back and see how such a huge international phenomenon was created. Who knows, if you take notes, you might be the next successful creator for Netflix!
Initially, Money Heist was going to have a different tone and even a different title: Alex Pina, its creator, decided to call it The Foreclosed, because all the members of the gang would come from an absolutely desperate situation. Fortunately, he took note of improvements, changed the name, and the rest is history.
And in history, precisely, the series is based, although not Spanish. Specifically, it is based on an American criminal and on an Argentine robbery that bears very similar similarities to those of the Dalís.
Only there there was not a Professor, but a Master, a man with no criminal record who planned the Banco Río robbery in Acassuso from top to bottom on January 12, 2006. The gang consisted of just 6 people, who, with toy guns, entered, kidnapped everyone who was there, and waited to be surrounded by police. When they entered, 5 hours after the start of the heist, the team had already left: they stole 15 million dollars and escaped through a tunnel they had dug themselves and left in boats. Doesn’t it remind you a bit of the plan of a certain Professor?
Sadly, the end of this Robin Hood case was not happy: the wife of one of them betrayed them, and they spent five years in prison since they had not really harmed anyone. However, only one million was recovered, and the rest remains missing. This pacifist attitude is the same as that of our other protagonist, Willie Sutton, an outlaw from the last century who stole about two million dollars in total and managed to escape from prison three times without ever harming anyone.
He entered banks with a gun, but not for pleasure, rather because, as he stated, you can’t rob a bank just with charisma and personality. Moreover, he apparently never loaded his guns because he didn’t want to hurt anyone. The general public accepted him as a kind of gentleman or Robin Hood, and there were even rumors that he would withdraw from the heists if a woman screamed or a child started crying.
That said, he was much less gallant than the Dalís and even claimed that “I robbed banks because I enjoyed it. I loved it. I was more alive when I was inside a bank, robbing it, than at any other moment in my life. I enjoyed it so much that one or two weeks later I was already looking for my next job. The money was just a bonus, nothing more.” Genius, character, and petty thief: How could he not serve as inspiration for the “ethical thieves” of Money Heist?

At least, Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodríguez, the showrunners, have promised that it will be “the satisfying ending that Mickey Haller deserves.” Mickey Haller maybe, but what about the fans, who are left sad, desolate, and with one less reason to pay for Netflix every month?
The good part is that it hasn’t been an arbitrary cancellation by Netflix, but rather a decision made by the creators themselves, who have seen how the series was naturally coming to an end and wanted to provide a conclusion that wasn’t rushed. “It is, of course, bittersweet, but also an incredible opportunity to close this adventure and perhaps create a new path for some of our characters in the future“. Did someone say spin-off in a couple of years?
The season will be based on the seventh novel in the saga, Resurrection Walk, but there is already one more published, The Proving Ground. What’s the good part about being left without a series? Maybe it’s time to spend the nights with a good book.

Pragmata, the latest original IP from Capcom, is a game that Adi Shankar and the people around him have their eyes on. “The number of people who have written to me is concerning (…). They are all like, ‘God, you have to do this next'” Shankar himself declared. But according to him, if it happens, it won’t be soon. “The next two things beyond Devil May Cry are original,” he stated, showing an interest beyond adapting the works of others.
On the other hand, Shankar is not surprised by his success. “I have the feeling that one of the reasons people are excitedly talking about Pragmata is because it is original”. It is not a reboot of Dead Space or The Last of Us 3, which also explains his position when it comes to making his own original productions before working on adaptations of others. After nine years, anyone could believe that Netflix was wrapping up Money Heist after the monumental success of its series and its spin-off, Berlin. However, at its presentation in Seville, the streamer had a little surprise up its sleeve: the story will continue in ways we can’t even understand yet.
As the trailer says, first came the money. Then came the gold. But the revolution is not over. “The next step has already been taken”, they announced, hinting that the next project from Alex Pina and his team is on the way. After the series was a huge hit on Netflix and its fifth season had so much merchandising (mostly food-related) that it reminded us of releases from the 90s, when that kind of maneuver still worked, the streamer is bringing the kids back for its new series, Tales from ’85. This animated spin-off is entertaining, yes, but it has caused more than one headache for fans because it introduces a new character, Nikki, who allows them to create new weapons… Without any mention of this new team member in the live-action series seasons.

Eleven was going to die
Yes, as it sounds: in the original plans for season 1 of the series, Eleven was going to sacrifice herself for the greater good, and that was going to be her true ending. However, what the Duffer brothers did not expect was that the series would become the success it was... largely thanks to the character played by Millie Bobby Brown. No matter how they turned it, the series did not work without her, so they had to bring her back in season 2. In hindsight, and seeing everything that has happened with her character, wouldn’t it have been much more epic to let her die to save her new friends?
Hopper’s Strange Alliances
Surely you remember Alexei, the Russian scientist who drank slushies in season 3 and became one of the best things about that batch of episodes (until, now, he died with no chance of bringing him back). The writing team liked him so much that they thought there was a way to pay homage to him in the next season: to have, purely by coincidence, his father end up in the Russian prison alongside Hopper and join his group. Of course, it required a gigantic leap of faith from the audience and really wouldn’t have added anything to the plot, but, honestly… we’ve seen worse things in the last season.
I Will Kill My Mother’s Boyfriend
Let’s set the scene. Season 2, Bob (played by Sean Astin) is Joyce’s new boyfriend and everything seems to be going well between them… until a Demodog catches him off guard and takes him out, allowing him to have one last scene with his girlfriend. However, in the writers’ room, this was not what was originally proposed: taking advantage of the fact that Will was possessed by the Mind Flayer, they thought it would be more than curious, for the character’s evolution, that he would be the one to end up killing Bob, causing him even more trauma. As if he didn’t have enough!
Eleven almost killed his mother
In season 1, we met Eleven’s mother, Terry, but what we didn’t know is that in a few episodes later, it was planned for Eleven to end her life as a favor, after realizing she was in a loop from which she could never escape. After all, since they can communicate telepathically, it wouldn’t have been that difficult for the girl’s powers to end the life of the one who gave her life. However, for whatever reason (it would completely blur the character by turning her into a killer of innocents), they decided to set this plot aside. Does it make sense? Undoubtedly. Would it have led to a better Stranger Things? Also. But sometimes, it’s better to leave things as they are.
