The gaming community has been shaken by the recent cancellation of Hytale, a title developed by Riot Games that had been popularly referred to as “the Minecraft of Riot Games“. Despite its potential, Hytale never managed to make significant progress in its development, leading to the final decision to halt its production, with no plans for resurrection in sight.
Vandals on Reddit!
However, the fervent followers of the game are not willing to give up. Through social media, they have launched energetic campaigns to request the return of Hytale. Using the Wplace platform, inspired by the well-known concept of Reddit Place, fans have created a giant artwork that highlights the hashtag #SaveHytale. This virtual canvas has been used to express a series of protest rights, even painting “over” the main offices of Riot Games in Santa Monica, California, where some of the most visible demonstrations have taken place.
Wplace has gained popularity in recent days, allowing users to paint pixels on an interactive map, which has fostered creativity and collective collaboration. This dynamic has allowed players to express their discontent artistically, while several works within Wplace reference other popular titles, such as Pokémon and Undertale.
Despite the outcry from users, Riot Games has not made any official comments about the future of Hytale. On the other hand, one of the developers who left the project in 2019 has expressed his desire to revive it, stating that he is willing to invest money, time, and effort into this endeavor. However, he has admitted that the chances of achieving this are “almost impossible,” which does not prevent the community from continuing to fight for the resurrection of the title.
