Life in the hospital leads to many frictions, which fosters relationships and all kinds of conflicts, and the very nature of the work leads to moments of constant tension, it is impossible for interesting things not to be constantly happening in a hospital. Especially if they are scripted.
But a particular series decided that the medical aspect should be less important than the human part, the relationship between the characters. And that it should also focus on the aspect that no one else did. Where all hospital series were serious and melodramatic dramas, or realistic and pompous, one in particular decided it could be a hilarious light comedy. Its name, Scrubs.
A purely millennial series
Scrubs premiered on October 2, 2001, on NBC under the direction of Bill Lawrence. The premise was simple. Follow the unique perspective of the protagonist and narrator, Dr. John Michael “J.D.” Dorian, who starts the series as a resident doctor and slowly climbs the hospital ladder while coming into conflict with his colleagues and superiors.
That everything is seen from J.D.’s point of view is important for the narrative of the series. With his head in the clouds, prone to fantasizing and considering himself extremely sensitive, this leads him to conceive absurd situations that blur the line with the reality of what is happening. This results in the series having fantastical, completely absurd, and hilarious scenes, accompanied by the reactions and frictions that arise between the characters, who are not always complicit with the sometimes childish attitude of their protagonist.
The series performed very well, even if it was never the most-watched series on television. During its first three seasons, it easily surpassed 10 million viewers, and until its seventh season, it managed to stay above 6 million. Starting from the eighth season, it would drop to just above 5.5 million, and in the ninth season, coinciding with a change of lead character, it would fall below 4 million with its worst audience figures to date.
Concluding on March 17, 2010, on ABC after its cancellation after seven seasons on NBC, where it ended on May 8, 2008, and was rescued by the former for an eighth and ninth season on January 6, 2009, the series accumulated 182 episodes, of which it is considered that at least the first 150 are good, and the first 68 are outstanding.
An unexpected and celebrated return
This has led ABC to decide to give the series a new chance. Something partly unexpected, but on the other hand also predictable. In an era of reboots, remakes, and relaunches, rescuing a beloved and appreciated series by the public seems like a safe bet. Especially when they have decided that Scrubs will not return in the form of a reboot, but will do so exactly as what fans would have wished from the beginning when the network rescued the series: as an eleventh season with the original actors.
The premise of this eleventh season is that J.D. returns to medicine alongside his best friend, Turk, to face the challenges of how the profession has changed over time. Having to take charge of interns, new colleagues, and the challenges of being veteran professionals and middle-aged men, this will not exclude the fact that they will still be the same two good-hearted goofballs with their heads more in the clouds than their feet on the ground.
Although the original creator, Bill Lawrence, is returning, it is not he who is in charge of the series. That role goes to Aseem Batra, who had already worked on the scripts for the eighth season. Everything stays in-house, but it makes us wonder if it will maintain the spirit of the original series.
Because that is the key to the success of this eleventh season. It will know how to be Scrubs for the fans who have been waiting for 16 years and, at the same time, reach a broader new audience. But to know this, we won’t have to wait or make any tricks. The series premieres on Wednesday, February 26, on Disney+, promising to bring back all that millennial humor that we love so much. Because it can’t be that we are disappointed twice.

That was not the case for Babygirl. A film that was not only an absolute critical and award-winning success, but also caused a strong cultural impact that does not seem to be fading anytime soon and, in addition, was a more than notable box office success.
A movie that succeeded in winning over both critics and audiences
Babygirl is a film directed and written by Halina Reijn, who directed the popular Bodies Bodies Bodies in 2022, featuring Nicole Kidman, Harris Dickinson, and Antonio Banderas in the leading roles. The film tells the story of a CEO dissatisfied with her sex life who finds a lover in a temp who protects her from a dog attack on the street. The plot thickens when games of domination and submission begin to intertwine in her life.
With a budget of 20 million dollars, the movie managed to gross over 64 million dollars at the box office. All of this without counting its release in the home format, being the most rented movie in the US, and becoming the third and sixth most purchased movie on iTunes and Fandango. This makes it an absolute commercial success.
But that doesn’t mean that the critics did not respond positively to the film. With a 76% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 79 on Metacritic, the film was met with great enthusiasm, except for the few dissenting voices that have abhorred it. Declaring it sexy, dark, and unpredictable, the excellent work of Nicole Kidman has been particularly highlighted for being both vulnerable and tremendously dominant, honestly showing how a sadomasochistic relationship works where the boundaries typical of this kind of relationship are not respected.
A conversation that does not run out
This has translated into an obscene amount of awards for Kidman as best actress for her performance in the film, being the big winner of the year in terms of nominations and victories among actresses who released films in 2010. Additionally, it was the best film of 2024 according to Time magazine, but it appeared in at least thirteen other publications in at least their top 10. Demonstrating that its success has been neither casual nor precisely insignificant.
Moreover, the film has generated no small amount of debate. Generating conversation about the role of women’s sexuality, especially among those who have already turned 30, and also the representation of mature women in fiction, the film has remained in the collective imagination since its release. And it is to be expected that it will continue to do so for a long time.
Especially considering that it is now available for streaming, being one of the major releases of August on Movistar+. A perfect opportunity to watch a movie that has generated conversation and no small amount of controversy and to find out if it was worth it or if, in the end, it was better to watch the new MCU movie.

Because we are talking about the universe of The Conjuring. Which includes The Warren Files and Annabelle, as well as The Nun. Beloved horror film franchises that have managed to evolve over the years and, at least these first two, are now coming to Max.
The Warrens, the most paranormal couple
Based on true events, The Conjuring, released in 2013, follows the case where two paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren, must uncover the extent to which spirits are involved in the strange occurrences of the Perron family. The film was a success for having a relatively realistic tone, emphasizing the supernatural aspects and the investigation itself, treating the work of uncovering the truth almost like a detective exercise.
The movie performed extraordinarily well, being highly appreciated by both critics and audiences, which led to the green light for the second film in the franchise: The Conjuring 2, released in 2014. In this case, the Warrens, five years later, must investigate a particularly tumultuous case that seems to combine a ouija board, strange events in London, and their own home.
Since the second installment was the most successful, it shouldn’t be surprising that they greenlit a third installment, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.
In this third installment, after documenting the exorcism of an 8-year-old boy, things begin to twist rapidly. Mixing supernatural terror with thriller, it may not achieve the same commercial success as the previous installment, but it will be the most intriguing in how it deviates from the classic formula of the franchise. We are yet to see what they do in The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, a film set to be released on September 5 of this year.
Annabelle, the doll you wouldn’t want to have at home
But in fairness, the Warren Files would not progress linearly. Between each installment, there would be other movies. Because the protagonist of the first movie would be the doll Annabelle and her first movie would serve as a prequel to the franchise.
Annabelle would premiere in 2014 and would serve to explore the origins of the character. Serving as an origin story, even more than a prequel, it focuses much more on the dramatic aspects and pure horror, making it have a very different approach. This makes it a perfect fit to be the direct sequel to the first Conjuring.
Especially not when it comes to the latest Annabelle movie. Because Annabelle 2: Creation, released in 2017, would tell how Annabelle, the doll, ended up enchanted, in a more formulaic but very satisfying movie for fans.
The latest film in the saga so far is Annabelle Comes Home, released in 2019, which once again crosses the paths of Annabelle and the Warrens. Proving that what they did to end the doll was ultimately not enough, the film feels more like a way to continue exploiting the character’s popularity rather than something that truly adds to the universe. But it is undeniable that it is an enjoyable film that delighted fans.
Where to watch it and in what order
Now that they are all available on Max, it’s possible to watch them as a way to prepare for the new installment of The Conjuring. Or simply to enjoy a good weekend of horror. Although if you also want to see the first two installments of The Nun, you’ll have to watch them on Amazon Prime or Apple TV, although on the latter only for rent.
As for the rest, if you want to see the entire franchise, there are two ways: either by release order (The Conjuring, Annabelle, The Conjuring: The Enfield Case, Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, Annabelle Comes Home, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, and The Nun 2) or by chronological order (The Nun, The Nun 2, Annabelle: Creation, Annabelle, The Conjuring, Annabelle Comes Home, The Conjuring: The Enfield Case, and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It). But in either case, a marathon of death awaits you.

That doesn’t mean that everything Rian Johnson touches turns to gold. Not at all. Although he is an excellent director, it has taken him many years of exceptional work to get to where he is today. And even now, he goes largely unnoticed in some of his works. This is the case with the series he is working on, which is now premiering its second season on SkyShowtime and which you may not have heard of. Its name is Poker Face.
When you can tell when a person is lying, it’s easy to be a detective
The premise of Poker Face couldn’t be simpler. Charlie Cale, played by the fantastic Natasha Lyonne, has the innate ability to detect lies. Due to a suspicious death, she must travel across the United States fleeing from a casino boss. Because of her travels and her unique ability, in each episode she will find herself solving the most peculiar homicide cases, whether she likes it or not.
Very inspired by Colombo, each episode is self-contained and is an inverted detective story. We know the crime and who committed it, and the episode focuses on how Charlie manages to solve it. Generally with hilarious results.
In this second season, which has already finished airing in the US, the format has not changed. Charlie continues to travel across the US, solving a case each time, all peculiar, always reluctantly. But Rian Johnson, instead of focusing on the evolution of Charlie’s character or his mythology, wanted to have fun with the cases. Making them even more outrageous, fun, and spectacular than in the first season.
While Charlie’s character evolves throughout the season, the weight of the series still lies in the cases and their resolution. Now even more complex and interesting, which will delight fans of detective stories, who shouldn’t miss Poker Face for anything in the world.
A series full of great names
In addition, like the first season, this second season is a real who’s who of Hollywood. Packed with cameos, there isn’t an episode without one or two stars making a small appearance. Among the most recognizable are Giancarlo Esposito, Katie Holmes, John Mulaney, and Awkwafina, but the list of actors involved in the series is huge. And to start, we wouldn’t want to spoil it here.
Any fan of detective stories or Knives Out should not miss this second season of Poker Face. Nor Poker Face in general. A series that is flying under the radar perhaps because it is not a drama or a dark and serious story, but it is undoubtedly one of the great current series.
That’s why, before you miss out and regret not having seen it earlier, take advantage of the premiere of this second season of Poker Face to catch up. Because if there’s one thing Rian Johnson has proven, it’s that no one knows how to write a reverse detective story like he does.

This is something that one of the most interesting Star Wars series in recent years experienced firsthand. Star Wars: The Acolyte wanted to do something different, looking into one of the richest and most vibrant eras of the Star Wars universe, with an impressive cast, but fans hated it. Why? That is a good question, because it doesn’t seem to be that the series was bad at all.
Jedis when being a Jedi was not yet strange
Set at the end of the High Republic era, approximately 100 years before The Phantom Menace, the series takes place in a time of peace. There is relative stability in the galaxy and the Jedi are still at their peak, although all of that is about to change.
The series begins with Osha, a former padawan who abandoned her training as a Jedi due to an internal turmoil regarding her connection to the Force, who reunites with her Jedi master, named Sol, to investigate a series of terrible crimes. Something that will lead them to discover a terrible truth: the Sith order, which was thought to have disappeared from the galaxy, is still standing. And it has a deep connection with both of them.
From here on, the series is a remarkable blend of detective story, kung-fu, and a classic Star Wars movie. Resulting in a very fresh and different mix that makes it much more interesting than most works derived from the franchise.
Another reason why it is interesting is because of its casting. With particularly rich characters and vivid interactions, it particularly highlights Master Sol played by Lee Jung-jae, known in the West for his role as Seong Gi-hun in Squid Game. Thus demonstrating his versatility by excellently portraying not only a completely different role from the one we know him for, but also doing so in a language that is not his own.
A review bombing for woke
However, as we have said, the reception of the series was less than positive. There were legitimate criticisms, with many people who genuinely did not like it for various reasons. This happens even with the best series. But there was also a group of people who felt offended by certain aspects of the series that should not be problematic for anyone at all: that its main actors, who were also the most prominent jedi, were women and people of color.
The lead actress, Amandla Stenberg, is of African descent. The lead actor, Lee Jung-jae, is Korean. Adding to that the fact that they are jedis ignited the fuse for many fans who saw it as an attack, considering the series as woke, even calling it The Wokelyte, initiating a process of review bombing and harassment where they tried by all means to bury the series. This resulted in the perception and reception of the series, after its first few weeks, being absolutely terrible.
Something that contrasts with its original reception. During its first five days, it achieved 11.1 million views, becoming the most-watched series on Disney+ in 2024 so far. Critics also reached a favorable consensus about the series. And only after the start of the review bombing with accusations of being a woke series did the idea begin to spread that it was bad or a failure of some kind.
A series that deserves another chance
Cancelled in August 2024, it seems unlikely that we will see a new season of The Acolyte. Being yet another victim of the cultural wars initiated by far-right individuals, too sensitive for a multicultural and inclusive reality.
That doesn’t change the fact that it is still possible to see the first and only season of the series. A unique series within the Star Wars universe, both for its tone and the era it visits, which, while it may not be to everyone’s taste, certainly deserved a chance. Because whether people like it or not, The Acolyte had many virtues that make it worth revisiting.

Thinking of fantasy without thinking of Tolkien’s work in general, and The Lord of the Rings in particular, is impossible. Without The Lord of the Rings, we wouldn’t have Dungeons & Dragons, nor 99% of contemporary fantasy stories. This demonstrates the power of its legacy: it created, by itself, what the genre is today.
This makes its importance crucial. And there are always people willing to bring back the trilogy in one way or another. Something that happened with particularly resounding success at the turn of the century when New Line Cinema decided to make the most epic and beloved trilogy of films in the history of cinema.
The film trilogy of The Lord of the Rings by Peter Jackson does not have the cultural impact that the novels had, because that is impossible, but they were a mass phenomenon. Everyone went to the cinema to see them, and it was a financial, critical, and awards success without absolutely any precedent. Something that made the absolute failure of its subsequent continuations even more surprising, something we are going to review today. Because we know you are eager to have an excuse to watch the movies again.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy premiered in 2001. Filmed simultaneously between October 11, 1999, and December 22, 2000, in New Zealand, it had a then-disproportionate budget of 281 million dollars, equivalent to about 530 million dollars when considering inflation. The three films were released in quick succession: The Fellowship of the Ring would premiere in 2001, The Two Towers in 2002, and The Return of the King in 2003. An exceptional fact, given that films are usually not shot simultaneously. But in this case, it helped to cement their success.
Upon their release with little waiting time, the films managed to capture the audience’s attention and the enthusiasm did not wane. Maintaining the interest of critics, the public, and the academy throughout the entire trilogy. Something that became evident through the numbers.
The Fellowship of the Ring grossed $887.8 million, The Two Towers reached $938.5 million, and The Return of the King made it to $1.1 billion. An exceptional fact, as it is normal for movie series to tend to earn less money with each new installment. But the rapid release of new installments, along with their quality, attracted more people to each new premiere, resulting in increased revenues.
What were the reasons for its success? Generally, it has been considered that fidelity to the novels, the strength of its direction, its enormous production values, and the quality of its performances are the main factors that captivated the general public. Although the fidelity to the novels was questioned at the beginning for not adapting certain parts of The Fellowship of the Ring, leaving out characters like Tom Bombadil, which later versions of the film showed were better off that way.
It swept even more in the houses
In fact, the movie was an even greater success in home formats. With numerous editions on DVD and Blu-ray, the three movies would have extended versions that would first be released in home format, but later would also be shown in theaters. This would extend the total runtime of the trilogy from 558 minutes to 683.
There are conflicting opinions about which of the two versions is better. According to some, the purest way to watch the movies is the extended versions, because they leave nothing out. According to others, the original versions are better because everything that was originally cut was for a reason, and it is noticeable in the excessively slow pace of the extended versions. A debate that still continues today among fans of the movie trilogy.
There was no doubt that they were masterpieces. Both critics and the academy agreed. With an average of over 90% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 9 on Metacritic, it is a tremendously respected trilogy. But nominated for 30 Academy Awards, with The Return of the King being the big winner, taking home 11 of them, including Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Adapted Screenplay, it demonstrates why they were an absolute cultural milestone. One that we have not experienced again and that, probably, we will never experience again: there was an absolute consensus on the quality of these films, and no one would have dared to question it.
A hobbit who couldn’t
That’s why everyone was eagerly awaiting the next from Peter Jackson and what would come from the Tolkien universe. Which was disappointing. Making several films in between, he released the Hobbit film trilogy between 2012 and 2014, resulting in a notable box office success, but a tremendous critical and awards fiasco. With the audience turning their backs shortly after.
What happened? To begin with, The Hobbit is a tale, not a trilogy of novels. The treatment as a trilogy of films made no sense. Furthermore, the excessive use of CGI, questionable direction, and performances that left much to be desired made it everything that the Lord of the Rings trilogy was not. It felt cheap, shabby, and not epic. Like one of those low-budget fantasy films where, instead of with enthusiasm, they try to disguise all the things where they lack imagination or money with second-rate effects.
After this, The Lord of the Rings spent several years dozing. It has had its ups and downs, with various series and movies, but nothing has achieved the success and significance of the original trilogy of The Lord of the Rings films. They are now returning to HBO Max so you can watch them in the comfort of your home, remembering something important: we are living through a historic event for culture, and we knew it. Because it was impossible not to know, when we were going to watch the trilogy of The Lord of the Rings films, that this was our Star Wars. And that only happens once per generation. If it happens at all.

On your mobile:
To change the wallpaper on your smartphone, first of all you need to download the image to your device. Fortunately The Sims 4 has many tricks at your service with which you can enjoy the game even more without having to spend hours in front of the console or PC. One of these tricks allows you to get all the simoleons you need in just a few seconds.
To get all the money you want in The Sims 4 you first need to access the cheat console of the game (press the keys Ctrl + Shift + C). You will see a command line appear on the screen where you must type the word “motherlode” and press enter. If you have done this step correctly, nothing more and nothing less than 50,000 simoleons will be instantly added to your Sim’s pocket, so you will be able to buy any property without any problems. If you see that you still don’t have enough money, repeat this trick until you get the necessary amount. It’s as simple as that!
