Top 7 IndieCade Games of E3 2019

Which of these 7 games will be the next big hit?

IndieCade

In the west hall of E3, a small group of tables houses the little-known but well-loved IndieCade, a yearly gathering of video games created by independent companies!

Give these games a chance, and you almost certainly won’t be disappointed! While huge developers can put out flashy games that completely lack soul (take Anthem for example…), most of these creations are labors of love, which means they’re loaded with niche appeal, innovative storytelling, experimental game mechanics, and more! As Undertale has proved, big things can be found in small packages.

Triple-A creators, we love you, but step aside! It’s time for the…

Best IndieCade Games of E3 2019

Sloppy Forgeries

Congratulations: you have 90 seconds to develop a good forgery of a priceless painting. Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be perfect! It just has to be better than the job done by your competitor…

Sloppy Forgeries simplifies classical pieces of artwork down to a snapshot made from about five colors, which the forgery masters must replicate with simple paint tools. At the end, they’re each given a percentage score based on how many pixels correlate with the original.

Frankly, this is a work pure genius: the premise is simple, the execution is perfect, and the result is great fun!

Manifold Garden

Yeah, we like the look of it, too!

When you get into Manifold Garden, it actually plays like Portal: you run through this beautifully crafted, visually engrossing world and must get through gates, rooms, and doors by manipulating gravity in six directions: north, south, east, west, up, and down.

Still confused? No worries, check out some gameplay!

The demo didn’t give us a sense of story, and there may be little-to-none. Frankly, a plot line would just be a cherry on top of a refreshing world filled with challenging puzzles.

Lemnis Gate

We promised experimental game mechanics, and Lemnis Gate delivers: prepare yourself for a first-person shooter in four dimensions. Yes, you’re going to be playing with Time itself!

Previously called “Convergence”, this game takes turn-based combat to the next level: back and forth, each player adds another soldier to a battle that loops every 30 seconds. The more rounds finished, the more complexity added. Soon enough, you’ll have to sort through chaos to find victory!

Ascend

After the initial release of Super Hot, indie VR games hit a stale period. Ascend aims to breathe life back into the market!

Strap on a VR helmet and prepare for battle as one of two angelic warriors: a gun-toting shooter or blade-wielding knight. Once you’ve chosen your character, launch right into the aerial combat and defeat your opponents!

Admittedly, while we’re amazed at what the game is today, we’re looking forward to seeing where it goes! Aerial VR battles with shooting and sword fights could lead to some intensely powerful games in the future, with wide-ranging applications. If more diverse characters are offered, the number of players per battle increases, map packs are added, and a community starts to develop, we could see this becoming another VR classic.

Boyfriend Dungeon

We smile literally every time we think about this game.

You’ve seen isometric dungeon crawlers. You’ve seen the silly anime dating sims. Get ready for a hilarious trope inversion that meshes aspects of both!

In Boyfriend Dungeon, you fight through dungeons to find weapons that you then go on dates with. Who wants boring old dating sims when you chill with a guy that’s a sword, or a cat that moonlights as a set of spiked brass knuckles?!

CATNeo Cab

We promised innovative storytelling, and Neo Cab delivers the goods!

Step into a future where Automated Vehicles (AV’s) almost completely abolished the need for cab drivers. But guess what? You’re a cab driver working for Neo Cab, one of the few remaining taxi companies!

In a world where automation is the last word in transportation efficiency, your end goal is to prove that the human element still matters in the highly competitive service industry. Be careful: a simple conversation with a passenger carries more weight than you might expect!

Have personality. Be discreet. Stay human.

KillSquad

We’re not fans of top-down action RPGs, but dang

This game looks amazing.

In fact, the phrase “too good” applies! Killsquad’s graphics look SO good, the monsters look SO cool, the weapons and abilities are SO exciting, it almost doesn’t feel like an indie game. If we didn’t physically see in the middle of IndieCade, we might have assumed it was a AAA title.

Then again…they are doing early access, which means Killsquad still has more work until completion. If they maintain the current quality, we look forward to seeing the result!

Thanks for Playing

Indie games are a great source of life, invention, and quality content for the gaming community. We hope you enjoyed the article, if any of these games sounded like your kind of thing, please give them a try!

See E3 2019’s National Videogame Museum Showcase

Step back in time with this cool display of video game history from E3.

NVMThe National Video Game Museum (NVM) shows up each year at E3 and delivers a huge showcase of games, consoles, and memorabilia from multiple generations of gaming history. Some of these can be seen behind protective glass. Others can be picked up and examined. Many of them are hooked up to power and fully playable! What’s more…

There are often no lines!

With so many people wandering around the convention floor on the hunt for big titles – the next release from Microsoft, Nintendo, Bethesda and more – these consoles are usually available to players at any time. Anyone who appreciates historical video games can walk in, pick up a controller, and hop straight into nostalgia city with little wait!

Except for Ms. Pac Man…everyone wants to play Ms. Pac Man.

That said, let’s talk about the NVM! We have a few pics of the most fascinating games of all time! Please enjoy…

E3 2019’s National Videogame Museum Showcase

DOOOOOOOOOM!

DoomStarting off right, here’s the original Doom!

With Doom: Eternal coming down the line from Bethesda, we wanted to throw a shoutout to the original first-person shooter experience. To this day, it’s still fascinating to watch people run around the cubic world, blasting away the two-dimensional demons of hell.

We’ve come a long way!

I can’t believe how far we’ve come in my lifetime. 1994-2019 from gaming

Mario Kart

Mario KartNot gonna lie: you get a little star-struck in the face of greatness such as this. We personally love Mario Kart, but began playing in the Gamecube era with Double Dash (which will always be our favorite, let the record state). However, we never expected to be in the presence of the original!

It holds up well. It holds up SO WELL. A game that old shouldn’t be allowed to play that smoothly, or be that fun. It’s humbling, really.

Sonic the Hedgehog: Supersonic Pinball

SanicLook at how cute this thing is! Sorry, we forgot a banana for scale, just trust us: it’s adorably small.

It serves as a good reminder: video games weren’t always released as just the video game alone. Back in the day, a huge variety of toys and other merchandise launched around popular titles like this.

Hopefully, with such a lovable legacy, the upcoming movie will do well after the Sonic re-design…

Pong IV: The Console

PongAh, “tele-gaming”. Remember that? Because we sure don’t!

If you’re wondering, this console was meant to plug into your black and white, or color television. Oh yeah. It’s so old the box says black and white… OR color television. That’s somehow wonderful, don’t you think?

The Board Games

Board GamesIf you think board games = bored games, you’re missing out!

Right near the Sonic pinball game, we found this huge selection of board game adaptions, so many they wouldn’t fit in one photo! Sadly, these are not meant to be played anymore. We can only imagine what kinds of pieces, boards, and rules were to be found inside.

Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Books

CYOAWhen dinosaurs roamed the earth, sometimes you had to play video games in your head. From Blaster Master to Mega Man 2, there were novels that allowed you play games without a console, using imagination!

The NES and a RED NINTENDO TV

SO COOOOLPerfection.

Taking a step back from the N64 and Mario Kart, we had the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Unfortunately, this one wasn’t turned on at the time, which is a crying shame; considering they had the Zapper light gun, it might have been loaded with Duck Hunt inside!

Duck hunt VR just got real from gaming

Oh, but we aren’t done yet!

On another table, there was actually a playable NES. At the time, we found it open to the next player with Super Mario World loaded up and a number of games sitting nearby. Take your pick, and try not to get too excited!

(Your eyes aren’t deceiving you, that’s Battle Toads)

GAMES

Atari Galore

AtariAtari is one of those systems that even modern kids should be able to understand. Even if they didn’t play on the console seen above, they’ve likely enjoyed titles like Centipede, Pac Man, or Asteroids in updated versions. They’re the games that keep on giving! Or, at least, the ones that keep being ported to new devices with fresh graphics.

Still, the National Videogame Museum kindly gave visitors a chance to try them out for real, in their First Form. Aside from Centipede, there were a few others on the table…

More!Miscellaneous Merch

Whoa, Merch!Ready for a little game of “I-Spy”? Good, because here we go:

Even though modern video games release collectibles – the Nintendo Amiibos, for example – they will never be as old and cool and fabulous as these ancient relics. Can you find… the Zelda Watch, free with the purchase of a Gamecube? The “Feeling Lucky?” playing cards themed around Tomb Raider? Maybe the gigantic license plate for Twisted Metal?

Along with those, we were surprised to find an entire case with pins for olden video games. We never really thought of pins as that big a deal until we saw the impressive collection of promotional buttons! Can you find… the “Play Me” Atari pin? The Yoshi’s Island for DS badge? How about the Warner Brother’s Games pin? The “IMB Means Exceptional Service” badge?

PinsAll the Old Arcade Consoles

From classics to niche titles, the arcade showing was strong:

Pong! Again!Yeah, they had the full Pong console as well! Please note, for hilarity’s sake, that each player of this iconic game must use a single knob to move their “paddle” up and down to block the ball. Those were simpler times!

Computer SpaceThis console plays Computer Space (1971), a game that feels like the lovechild of Pong and Asteroids. Unfortunately, it was roped off during E3 and we did not get to play.

Area 51There we go: a millennial title!

Released in 2005, Area 51 could be found in all the arcades! We have fond memories of walking past these stations as two players would co-op shooting aliens with the attached guns!

And why did we walk past? Probably to play the even better co-op arcade shooter, Time Crisis… That game swallowed many of our quarters.

Jump Man?Remember how some games give off the star-struck feeling? Well, here’s one: Donkey Kong!

Now, reportedly, the protagonist character is actually called “Jump Man,” and isn’t actually Mario. We’re not sure what to think about this ourselves, so take that information as you will.

Crystal CastleCrystal Castle asks an important question: what would it be like to play a bear searching for gems, being hunted by monsters, on an eclectic grid system where movement is controlled by the player rolling a ball?

The answer was this wonderful game, which still both intrigues and confuses us (in the best ways) since we tried it as kids!

Dig Dug Again!Second to last, we have a classic. It may not have extensive remakes, but Dig Dug still holds a special place in our heart as the arcade game that our parents would always gladly talk about when the subject of video games came up. Family times!

And what better game to finish with than…

SMB!SUPER MARIO BROS!

Growing up, we played Super Mario Bros Deluxe on the Gameboy Color. It’s hard to describe the excitement of playing on a full console, remembering all the secret transport pipes, the mushroom blocks, and the hidden vines to heaven. This game truly deserves all the love it’s received through the many, many years.

Game Over

We enjoyed our time walking through the annals of video game history and taking in the sights. If you missed E3, but still want to see more, visit the National Videogame Museum! Nothing deepens appreciation for modern games like a short (or very, very long) walk through the years of gaming that started before Pong and led up to the newest reveals of E3 2019.

See the best cosplayers of E3 2019

Look at the great cosplayers who turned up to E3!

Cosplay!!!

Cosplay is cool!

Some people can’t stand the idea of wearing a strange getup at Halloween. Others will gladly put hundreds of dollars into the designing, sewing, and machining true-to-life costumes based on their favorite characters.

For those who think dressing up in outlandish costumes and playing the personality and mannerism of the source character seems totally weird, that’s alright. You don’t have to fully embrace the hype (although the phrase “don’t knock it until you try it” comes to mind…), but we ask you to recognize how impressive these outfits are!

Now, before we go on, we should note: E3 cosplay works a little differently. Comic-Con, Anime Expo, MomoCon, and many of the other large cons have a huge emphasis on costumes, but the Electronic Entertainment Expo puts more emphasis on games, which many of the cosplays you’re about to see are promotional. Just wanted to let you know up front.

Now! Here are the…

Cosplayers of E3 2019

These… These People

These PeopleWho are these people? No idea. Admittedly, we forgot to ask. To the best of our knowledge, they were a well-dressed promotional troupe, seeing as their group looks like the unlikely combination of a pompadour-wearing Daft Punk member, the ninja from Furi, and an airplane director who rushed to work after a rave.

If we’re joking about your fandom, please let us know, and sorry in advance! Kind of. The point is, these folks look great!

Yokai Kitchen

these other people

Yokai: Japanese monster spirits.

In FriendTimes Inc. new game, Yokai Kitchen, you can help them serve food! To promote their game, these two well-dressed cosplayers were moseying around the convention center.

Devil May Cry 5 and Something Else

Dante and FriendsWe just happened to catch Dante from Devil May Cry 5 and these two characters from…something. When directed to their booth, we discovered there were very few English translations to be found, but we grabbed a snapshot of their sign! Check it out (and please help translate in the comments if possible):

What is this name?

All the Fortnite!

Cuddle TeamCuddle Team Leader signing in!

The Fortnite booth had a ton of cosplayers making the rounds, doing the dances, and generally being fantastic portrayals of the various playable characters. For example…

BushWait…never mind, that’s just a bush.

We did, however, get the chance to dance with a Frozen Red Knight! They had some pretty slick moves, but we were able to keep up pretty well with some triple-time Hype and lanyard-breaking Orange Justice!

Right? Right…

Yep. Bulletproof performance.

Wario

Wario, baby!Yep, just Wario. Holding a Game and Watch. Because really, do you need anything else?

(So jealous of that ‘stache, dude, A+ cosplay right there.)

Lightmass. No, Linux. Wait, Lady Butterfly! *sigh* She’s from Apex Legends.

Apex LadyYes, folks, it’s Lady Apex!

Honestly, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better costume for Captain Lasky. We were able to grab a business card from this cosplayer, Michelle, you can find her at Twitch, Twitter, and Instagram!

(And before anyone gets too hot and bothered…yes, we know the character is actually Lifeline)

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Link! What gaming expo would be complete without the Hero of Time?

If anyone’s wondering, this version comes from Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, in which Link dresses up as a Gerudo woman to sneak into a city for women only. You get to ride a sand seal, you take out a camel (the divine beast Naboris), it’s all quite an adventure!

Darksiders: Genesis

DarksidersThere’s the article thumbnail! These impressively dressed folks were promoting the upcoming isometric dungeon crawler, Darksiders: Genesis.

We’ve seen a lot of great costumes for characters we already know, which impressed us because of our familiarity. It’s a rare but welcome occurrence to find outfits you don’t immediately recognize but want to know better. Round of applause for the creators’ effort!

Destroy All Humans

Aliens

Crash course for this game: you’re an alien who lands on Earth and decides to destroy all humans. Consider yourself briefed, soldier.

While these weren’t the most high-effort cosplays out there, we did find the entire crew to be quite interesting as a group together!

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2

Soldier

We found this soldier walking the South hall promoting the upcoming Tom Clancy release. Trust us: around the Ubisoft booth, there were an army of personnel such as these!

Frankly, it’s always interesting to see military cosplayers when there are security guards around a convention. It takes a moment to realize, “Oh, right, Albion really doesn’t seem like an actual event management firm”. Still, you never know…

Final Fantasy

Knight

A knight of Final Fantasy, reportedly game XIV. Check out those majestic epaulettes, the rich cloak, the finely-crafted sword! Beautiful.

Last but not Least: Final Fantasy XII

TifaAnother staple of gaming conventions: Tifa Lockheart!

Tifa was a fan favorite since the release of OG Final Fantasy 7, and now that the remake has stormed the internet with insanely well-updated graphics, you should expect many more cosplayers dressed as her!

Also, if you forgot which Final Fantasy this is, here’s the one piece of information that really matters: this game has the Buster Sword.

Conclusion

Thanks for looking through! we hope you enjoyed a few of the awesome cosplays of E3 2019. Think you’d like to attend next year’s event? Here’s what you’ll need to know to attend E3.

E3 Survival Guide

Want to attend E3? Here’s what to bring and how to plan.

E3

So, you want how to do E3 right? Well, we’ve got the guide for you!

Every convention works differently, and each demands its own types of planning, from hotel choice to parking to event attendance. E3 has it has similarities with other conventions, but there are a number of peculiar factors we’d like to discuss.

You may ask: can you go without preparation? Sure! However, it’s easy to be overwhelmed by the enormous number of things to do and see; there’s a lot going on for a first-timer to take in! We created this guide so your time at the event can be spent enjoying as much of the show as possible.

Let’s jump right in to the…

The Big Question: What is E3 like?

E3-2

It’s hard to plan around an event you don’t understand.

E3 may sound mysterious: games are being announced, tech is being displayed, tons of people show up, but what really happens inside? What is there to do?

First off, remember the date and location. E3 happens every year at the Los Angeles Convention Center sometime around July. Considering these two pieces of information, expect a hot day in a large city. Be prepared for the downtown hustle, because you’ll be surrounded by skyscrapers and traffic! (We wish we could say it was “special event” traffic, but LA traffic will always be there, so…)

Next, let’s talk about the presentations:

Surprisingly, while these beloved showcases are tied to E3, they aren’t directly correlated with what happens inside the LA Convention Center!

Many of these reveals occur during the E3 “Coliseum,” a large venue for showcase events, which actually occurs at the Novo, a stadium located northeast of the convention center. Weird, right? If you want to sit in on one of the reveals or discussions, you’ll have to head away from the expo.

So, what happens in the convention center itself? Well…

We like to compare the main even to a theme park: you wait in line to for various “rides,” or in this case, a game that hasn’t been released yet! For 2019, this means you could test such games as Borderlands 3, the remake of Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening , or a new Monster Hunter DLC.

So, where do you find those game developers? If you look at a map of the convention, you’ll notice there are two main halls: South and West. Mind you, these aren’t separated by function, the main difference is simply what developers are placed where! You’ll have to check through each one to find which games to invest time in.

MapE3In summary: the exposition itself is mainly an area for gamers to demo titles and technology that haven’t been released yet. Be prepared for a hot summer day and a slight wait in line. But trust us, it’ll be worth it!

Let’s get to some practical stuff…

E3 Parking/Travel

We’ll keep this section short.

There are numerous hotels, and a great amount of information about staying in them on E3’s own website. As you may imagine, many of the places they suggest are downtown, within walking distance of the convention center. Those options can be as expensive as they are convenient, and they disappear quickly! If you want a hotel in the area, make sure to book a room far in advance.

If you’re looking for something cheaper, there are many other hotels further away and numerous Airbnb options!

For parking, we highly recommend using the LA Convention Center’s parking garage or underground lot. You’ll pay around $25, but it’s practically an investment to have your car that close when it’s time to leave!

You can find the parking lots on the southern end, at locations we marked below. They will each have ample signage to direct traffic!

Yeah

If you’re going to use unaffiliated lots, there will most certainly be options closer to the $10 range. We recommend getting there early to find the best spot. We came in at 11:30 a.m. and found things mostly empty, but at 3:00 pretty much everything had been taken. Ye be warned.

What to bring to E3

Smiley2Surprising news: you don’t need that much.

E3 was designed with gamers in mind, and everything is well prepared for the large groups of people that wander the convention floor. The bare essentials are as follows:

  1. Comfortable clothing, especially shoes. Need we say more? No, of course not. You get the point already: don’t wear those cheap, uncomfortable flip-flops, you’ll hate yourself later.
  2. Personal effects. Wow, we’ve gone 2 for 2 on the “obvious” list. We’d recommend grabbing some cash money as well, but E3’s focus on upcoming games reduces their focus on merchandise. Frankly, unlike Comic-Con, there’s no real reason to prepare for the merchants’ hall or artists alley. They have no power here.
  3. A photo ID. Don’t be caught without one! You need this to get into the convention center, even after claiming your visitor’s badge.
  4. Charging cables. Pictures and videos will be taken, a whole lot of them. Don’t miss out on capturing a moment because your phone or camera went dead!
  5. Sunglasses or a hat. It’s hot, it’s summer. Protect your eyes and skin, please.
  6. Maybe a bag. There are many handouts at E3, you’ll want someplace to put them aside from your overflowing pockets. Just remember, there are restrictions on what bags you can bring inside:

BAGS

Still, that’s about it! The convention has food, air conditioning, entertainment, and more. Frankly, if you walked from your hotel room in comfortable clothing, with a photo ID, visitors badge, and some lunch money, you’d be set for the whole day.

And if you’re the type of person that just doesn’t eat at conventions for whatever reason, you could even leave the food funds behind!

Cash Money

Final planning notes

A few more things:

Please enjoy this quick breakdown for your full E3 trip, divided into sections chronologically, day by day. These are suggestions that might just save your life! Metaphorically speaking.

Day 1

Walk around the entire convention center, look at everything, and make a mental map of where stuff is located. You’ll discover that, outside the game lines, there are many things to be seen that don’t involve longer waits: you can sit down in an experimental haptic gaming chair, hop into an indie video game, or dance with a Fortnite cosplayer. All good things!

Day 2

Have a plan from the very start. When there are shorter lines during opening hours, wait for one of your more pressing interests, like a large AAA title everyone wants to try. After that, grab lunch and check out some of the smaller attractions: walk through the video game museum, try some ancient consoles, or join a small multiplayer game of Smash (there are games of Ultimate scattered everywhere, trust us). If you have time, try another popular game!

Day 3

Now that you’ve hopefully tried all the side stuff and walked around for two days, take a seat in line and wait for the rest of your big targets. Run down your list and see what demos you can fit into the remaining hours. Talk to people in line, enjoy the sights, take it easy!

Conclusion

Even if you don’t use our advice and plans to the letter (which we highly advise against; everyone’s approach should be personalized to their style), we hope this gives you a springboard to developing your own schedule, and a head start on understanding the convention’s consistency.

Thanks for reading, we’re excited for the year’s releases and can’t wait for next E3!

5 things we DIDN’T see at E3 2019

Did E3 give you enough to slake your thirst, or were you hoping to see more?

Samus

And so, another E3 has come to pass. With it came a lot of games we weren’t expecting to see.  However, there were a bunch of things we were hoping to see but they never graced the stage.

Here are the things we sadly didn’t get to see at E3 2019 that we will hopefully hear more about soon.

Halo Infinite gameplay

At E3 2018, Halo fans went nuts when Halo Infinite was announced.

This year, we were dying to see gameplay for the new game, or at least hear some new cool details. What we got was this:

Sure, it’s kinda cool. However, we don’t want to see a trailer that’s basically a cut scene we will try to skip through on subsequent playthroughs. Why can’t we see Master Chief in action? Why can’t we see new weapons or changes in combat mechanics? Why can’t we hear about what’s coming to online?

We’re happy that we got SOMETHING, but this was hardly worth the year we had to wait.

Anything about the PlayStation 5

So what did Sony bring to E3?

Although Hideo Kojima gave us a new trailer for Death Stranding a few weeks ago, and we got a few new PlayStation 5 details in the months leading up to E3, Sony was notably absent this year.

If Sony would have shown up with just a few details about the PS5, we would have been thrilled. We didn’t even need much; they could have just given us a better idea of when it would be released and potential new features. But no, Sony instead left E3 in the hands of Microsoft and Nintendo.

To be fair, Nintendo kinda killed it at E3 this year. Although, there was one game that we tragically heard nothing about…

Metroid Prime 4

Two years ago at E3 2017, we first saw the announcement trailer for Metroid Prime 4, and we were elated.

However, at the beginning of the year, we got some unfortunate news. The game was going to be delayed.

After already waiting so long to see Samus’s next adventure, it was a kick in the teeth to learn that we were going to have to wait even longer. However, since that announcement was made about five months ago, we were hoping that by now we would get some sort of update on the game. Sadly, we heard nothing.

We’re hoping that Samus isn’t doomed to forever be trapped in the Brinstar Depths, but our hopes of actually playing this game are quickly dwindling.

The Last of Us Part II

To be fair, we already know a LOT about The Last of Us Part II. We got a cool reveal trailer two years ago, and we got more than 10 minutes of gameplay footage last year. However, we are still worried about the release date.

At first, we were optimistic that we would finally get to see what Joel and Ellie have been up to by the end of 2019, but that is looking further and further from the truth.

Death Stranding has a concrete release date of Nov. 6, 2019, and we simply cannot see Sony releasing two games with such massive hype that close together. I mean we are probably going to buy both at launch anyway, but it isn’t a smart move to let two console exclusives compete with each other for sales.

This suggests that The Last of Us Part II will just have to wait until early 2020. However, now we aren’t sure of that either because Cyberpunk 2077 is set to be released in April of 2020. Sure, Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t a PS4 exclusive, but we can’t imagine Sony wanting to compete against that title either. Do you really want to go toe-to-toe with Keanu Reeves?

We didn’t think so.

Elder Scrolls VI

At E3 2018, Bethesda released this 36-second announcement trailer for the next Elder Scrolls game… and it definitively was the most hyped announcement of that year.

One year later, we were hoping to get something more than a glorified JPEG, but we instead got a trailer for Elder Scrolls Online: Elsweyr:

What do we think of that trailer?

We got nothing for Elder Scrolls VI. We didn’t get a release date, we didn’t get a new trailer, and we didn’t even get an official title!

Honestly, if Bethesda didn’t show us Doom: Eternal, they might as well not have come at all.

It was still a pretty awesome E3

At the end of the day, we still got some awesome announcements at E3 2019. Come on people, we got a trailer for a new Zelda game. What more could you ask for?

What games were you hoping to see at E3 this year? Were you satisfied with the lineup, or were you hoping that this would finally be the year for Half Life 3? Let us know in the comments below.

Nintendo’s biggest announcements from E3 2019

Animal Crossing: New Horizon and No More Heroes 3 are coming to the Switch!

Bowser

Microsoft can keep Halo: Infinite, and Sony can have Death Stranding because Nintendo definitively won E3 2019 without either of them.

In Nintendo’s first day at E3, we learned about new characters coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, a sequel to Breath of the Wild, and we even caught a glimpse of some new Pokémon! In less than 45 minutes, Nintendo broke the internet.

However, Nintendo revealed so much more than what just said. New games, remakes, and new features were unveiled, and we picked out the best of the best! Here are our favorite reveals from Nintendo at E3.

Nintendo E3 key takeaways

Animal Crossing New Horizons is coming March 2020

We’ve known that a new Animal Crossing game was coming to the Nintendo Switch for a while. However, when we finally got to see it today, our expectations were blown out of the water.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons takes place on a tropical paradise. Here you can build up your new home along with all the colorful characters you have learned to love.

Initially, Nintendo announced that this game was going to come out around Christmas 2019. However, today’s trailer pushed the game back to March 2020. At the end of the day, we’re really not all that upset; we’re just happy we got a trailer!

By the way, where was Reggie during all of this?

Ah, makes sense.

No More Heroes 3 is happening

We don’t think anyone was expecting to see this trailer, but we are so glad that we did.

No More Heroes was one of the hidden gems of the Nintendo Wii. The game stars Travis Touchdown – an assassin who hacks and slashes every bad guy he comes across with his beam sword.

Travis is also a complete nerd. His apartment is filled with loads of pro-wrestling and anime collectibles. Basically, he’s one of the most identifiable video game protagonists ever. The only issue is that we haven’t seen Travis since the sequel in 2010, Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes.

However, in 2020 we will finally reunite with Travis, in what will surely be one of the top titles of the year.

Now that this is out of the way, please Nintendo, put Travis in Smash.

Super Mario Maker 2 will have online multiplayer

Mario Maker 2

As hyped as fans were for Super Mario Maker 2 when we learned that the game was not going to have online multiplayer we thought “What’s the point then?”

Luckily, Nintendo confirmed in a tweet today that Super Mario Maker 2 will have online multiplayer in a future update.

Basically, the game will not have it at launch, but Nintendo has seen the error of their ways and will include it later.

Trials of Mana is getting an HD remake!

If you put 100 gamers in a room together and ask what are the best classic RPGs, almost all of them will mention the Secret of Mana series.

The games have all of the feel of the Final Fantasy series, but with even more whimsical charm and nature. That charm looks like it is at the forefront in the new trailer for the HD remake of Trials of Mana.

The game has the same charm of the original, but with a much-needed cosmetic upgrade.

The game is set to come out in early 2020. However, Nintendo also announced that you can play all three games in the Secret of Mana library right now on your Nintendo Switch!

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming to Switch

Nintendo has already brought some amazing games from the past decade to the Switch. This includes Saints Row: The Third, L.A. Noire, and now The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

The game along with all of its DLC will be available to play later this year. However, you can preorder it now!

Luigi’s Mansion 3 is coming soon

Luigi’s Mansion has gone from being a cult-classic to one of our favorite Nintendo series out there.  The new trailer for Luigi’s Mansion 3 looks like more of the spooky adventures we love.

In the games, Luigi is basically a Ghostbuster who uses a vacuum cleaner to capture ghosts as he tries to find his lost brother. Here, Luigi brings a few new tricks including a new gooey Luigi and new attacks. However, the best thing that Luigi is bringing is both local and online multiplayer. Now, you can prove to your friends that you ain’t afraid of no ghost as you dominate the competition.

We don’t have to wait that long to try them out ourselves since the game is set to come out later this year!

New Pokémon, limited Pokédex leaked at Nintendo Treehouse

Two new Pokémon have been leaked at Nintendo Treehouse!

pokemon

During Nintendo’s Treehouse at E3 this year, two new Pokémon were revealed! However, fans also learned in a leak that we will not be able to play with all of our favorite mons in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield.

Yamper the electric corgi

Yamper pokemonThe first new mon was Yamper, the adorable little corgi. According to Serebii, it is an electric type. Also, it has a new ability that allows it to pick up the first failed Pokéball you throw at a mon.

Fans have been anticipating a corgi mon for a while. Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield take place in the Galar Region, which is based on the United Kingdom. Queen Elizabeth is known for her adorable corgis, and now so will we once we get ahold of this game!

Impidimp, the first ever dark, fairy type

impidimp
Cool typing, but that’s a pretty bad design.

Although Impidimp is not very visually breathtaking, his typing is something to behold. We have never before had a dark, fairy type mon. This unique typing means that we have a dark type with attacks that are super-effective on other dark types.

Hopefully, this little guy will evolve, and we will get a cooler looking final evolution.

Galar’s limited Pokedéx

Unfortunately, not all of the news is good. It was also confirmed at the Nintendo Treehouse that the Galar Region will have a limited Pokédex and that players will not be able to transfer over mons that aren’t in it.

We do not know all of the mons that will or won’t be available in Galar, but this is still a punch to the teeth. There are nearly 1,000 mons in the whole franchise, and not being able to play with all of them is a complete shame. Hopefully, GameFreak will listen to their fans on Twitter and right this wrong.

Banjo-Kazooie, Dragon Quest heroes are coming to Smash

The bear and bird have abandoned hunting Jiggies, and have decided to duke it out in Smash!

Banjo KazooieCODE BLUE! BANJO-KAZOOIE IS IN SMASH! REPEAT, CODE BLUE!

Toward the end of Nintendo’s E3 presentation today, the company announced that Banjo-Kazooie is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate!

That’s right, the bear and bird duo will be shooting eggs, bird-slamming, and beak-lunging at the competition. If you don’t know who Banjo and Kazooie are, please educate yourself:

Along with bringing the tools of their trade from Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie, it appears that there will be a Spiral Mountain stage and a Gruntilda’s Lair stage. Also, Gruntilda herself looks like she will be making an appearance as an assist trophy.

Fans have wanted Banjo Kazooie in Smash for YEARS. The fact that Nintendo has made it happen is bringing tears to our eyes. To make things even better, This wasn’t Nintendo’s only character announcement for the day!

Dragon Quest 11 heroes join the fight

Dragon QuestHeroes from Dragon Quest 11 will be playable in Smash Ultimate as well. The trailer doesn’t quite specify if each hero will be their own character or just a skin under the name “The Hero.” However, given that Smash already has so many swordfighters, we can’t see them adding four more.

The characters look amazing. They are designed by legendary manga creator Akira Toriyama. Although fans have wanted Toriyama’s pride and joy Goku to join Smash, this is probably going to be the closest we will ever get.

The Hero will have a list of abilities to unleash on the battlefield. This includes a spell to put people to sleep, turning into iron, and even a massive kamikaze explosion. The abilities are similar to Shulk’s Monado Arts but are one of the most unique traits of any Smash fighter.

Honestly, we can’t wait to see what both of these characters will do to the competitive scene. Luckily, we will get to find out this fall!

Who’s next?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. We don’t want to be greedy, but we can’t help but think of who we want to see next!

With so many more potential characters to add to the mix, we would love to see more characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. Also, cut Waluigi some slack and throw him in there!

Who were you most excited to see today? Also, who do you think should still be in Smash? Let us know in the comments below!

Borderlands 2 gets DLC leading up to Borderlands 3

Gearbox releases DLC for Borderlands 2, which paves the way for Borderlands 3!

Lilith
I want you! Also, take notice that she has no tattoos.

Borderlands 3 is only a few months away.

Wow, it feels so good saying that.

Before the game finally drops, Gearbox is giving us more and more information about the game at E3. This includes this awesome new trailer:

However, that’s not all the good news we got from Gearbox. In a unique move, they released a surprise DLC package for Borderlands 2. The new expansion is called Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary.

In this new expansion, a new gang of baddies invades Sanctuary. Luckily, Lilith is here to take charge in the fight against them.

The DLC is FREE to download for the Handsome Collection until July 8.

After the death of her boyfriend Roland, Lilith is now the leader of his battalion, the Crimson Raiders. With Handsome Jack out of the way, Lilith is planning to take Sanctuary to the stars to uncover more vaults. The story ends with a bang as we gear up for Borderlands 3.

If you don’t want to know everything that happens in the DLC, read no further as there are SPOILERS BELOW. Now let’s dive in!

What we learned

Effervescent weapons

Effervescient
Butt Stallion’s favorite guns!

One of the new types of weapon in Borderlands 3 will be Effervescent guns. These weapons shoot explosions of rainbows at enemies. They also have unique features like spraying bullets upon reloading. They seem to be few and far between, so consider yourself lucky if you find one.

Scooter is really dead

Scooter
See you, space cowboy.

Sadly, Scooter’s death from Tales from the Borderlands looks like it is going to stick. In the game, Scooter bravely sacrifices himself for the heroes as he rides a rocket doomed to explode.

To give us closure, Gearbox has included a mission in the DLC to carry out Scooter’s last will and testament. This includes normal Scooter stuff like delivering nudie magazines. However, you also visit Scooter’s sister Ellie to tell her that she is inheriting his business, Catch-a-Ride.

Although we are going to miss Scooter, we are happy to see Ellie return to the franchise. If you are looking for closure for Scooter, this DLC is the answer.

Lilith might have lost her powers

Lilith
Sup

At the end of the game, Lilith has to cause a massive explosion to kill the final boss as well as all of Sanctuary. However, Lilith appears to have REALLY overdone it.

As she slowly recovers, we don’t see her use her Siren powers. If you listened closely to the new Borderlands 3 trailer, you probably heard Lilith say that she USED to be a Siren. This suggests that Lilith could have very well lost her powers by causing the explosion.

Lilith also appears to no longer have her tattoos in the Borderlands 3 trailer. As Sirens all have tattoos on their bodies, it all but confirms our theory.

We’re going off-world!

Off world

The end of Borderlands 2 suggests that the vault hunters would be going off-world to find more vaults. However, it doesn’t seem like Lilith put any of that plan into action in the years since Handsome Jack’s demise.

However, after defeating the final boss, Lilith reveals that she thinks they should begin to go after the vaults. Her theory is that they are all connected and that there might be a bigger baddie out there trying to round them all up.

Wrapping up

Let’s say it one more time just for good measure:

Borderlands 3 is only a few months away.

Until it comes out on Sept. 13, we are probably going to marathon every Borderlands game and all of the DLC. Feel free to join us, and make sure you are listening to some decent dubstep while you’re at it.

Microsoft announces next Xbox console, shows more Halo: Infinite footage

Microsoft teased a new console and gave us more info on Halo: Infinite. But was it enough?

XboxToday, the new Xbox codenamed “Project Scarlett” is merely built on promises. Project Scarlett has the same promises you see from other new consoles. It’s going to have more memory, better graphics, and higher resolution.

However, in the E3 announcement for Project Scarlett, Microsoft did have two major promises that grabbed our attention. The first was, of course, the new Halo game – Halo Infinite:

Halo Infinite

Halo Infinite takes place after the events of Halo 5: Guardians. In the trailer, a passerby finds Master Chief floating through the vastness of space. After being revived, Master Chief learns that the humans lost everything. He is then shown what appears to be a destroyed Earth with a Halo ring around it.

Master Chief doesn’t even have a chance to mourn the loss of the Earth. The ship is attacked, and Master Chief has to lock and load.

As the trailer comes to a close, we see Master Chief walking toward a projection of a broken Halo ring. As he gets closer, we hear Cortana in the background, teasing that she will be returning.

Halo Infinite will be a launch title for Project Scarlett when it is released in later 2020.

We didn’t get to see any gameplay, which is a big let down. Last year, we got a teaser for Halo Infinite, so the fact that all Microsoft could only give us another teaser in a year gives us reason to worry.  At the end of the day, it’s Halo. They’re probably not going to mess it up. However, if you want people to buy your shiny new console, you need to entice them a bit more.

Say goodbye to load screens

The second major promise from Microsoft was that Project Scarlett will have little-to-no load screens.

If Microsoft keeps their promise, this is HUGE. As soon as video games made their jump to discs, we had to deal with longer and longer load screens.

Removing load screens altogether would be a giant leap in the right direction. Nowadays, games try to masque load screens with hints, tips, and even jokes. However, when these load screens take a few minutes, they can really take us away from the experience.

Think about it, how much nicer would a game like Skyrim be if you didn’t have to worry about those pesky load screens?

Just a rumor

In the announcement, Microsoft said that Project Scarlett would feature thousands of games across four console generations. Some took this as a hint that Project Scarlett will be backward-compatible with every Xbox game. As cool as that would be, we can’t say for sure if it’s true.

New controller

controller

Although Project Scarlett is coming out until next year, you can get a new Xbox controller in just a few months.

Microsoft unveiled a new controller with Bluetooth capabilities as well as a 40-hour battery life.

The controller is pretty high-priced at $179.99. Heck, you can get the entire Google Stadia for that.

However, the new controller does come with a bunch of cool things for that price:

  • Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2
  • Carrying case
  • Set of six thumbsticks: Standard (two), Classic (two), Tall (one), Wide Dome (one)
  • Set of four paddles: Medium (two), Mini (two)
  • Set of two D-pads: Standard, Faceted
  • Thumbstick-adjustment tool
  • Charging dock
  • USB-C cable

Is Xbox bouncing back?

Many fans argue that Microsoft hasn’t been very competitive in recent years. Nintendo has been releasing exclusive titles like Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey and Sony has had great titles like God of War and Marvel’s Spider-Man. Xbox simply hasn’t had the same number of great exclusive titles in recent years. Sure, the new Gears of War was fun, but it’s no The Last of Us.

We still need more info before we can recommend setting some money aside for Project Scarlett. We don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on a machine that basically just plays Halo.

Maybe next year, Microsoft should put more Keanu Reeves in your presentation.
