After the success of Fallout and The Last of Us, these are the 7 video games we want to see turned into a series

Video games have shown that they can succeed in traditional media, particularly on television. Although cinema still resists them, surely due to the rigidity of its production structures, they have demonstrated that they can tell fascinating stories that capture the hearts and minds of people through the small screen. Because some of the best current series are adaptations of video games. The second season of The Last of Us is breaking the records set by the first. Because some of the best current series are adaptations of video games.

The second season of The Last of Us is breaking the records set by the first. The second season of Fallout is causing a stir like we haven’t seen in a long time. And that makes us wonder, what other video games could be adapted to the television format? And that’s what we’re going to answer in this list that will give you some unexpected surprises.

Doom

The gates of hell have opened. Only one man can stop the invasion. And from there, an absolutely fascinating story can be built with all the lore we have gathered over three decades of the best FPS ever created: Doom. It would be an extremely violent series and may seem brainless, but after Doom Eternal, it is clear that there are stories to tell from both humans and demons, their hierarchies, and their lives outside of Doom Guy. And it could lead to very, very interesting stories.

GTA 4

Niko Bellic is one of the most interesting protagonists in video game history. Just for that, it is already possible to build an entire series around him. But also, with his story and the characters surrounding him and all the things that happen to him, we could have the new The Wire by adapting this masterpiece from Rockstar with a bit of good taste and a sufficient budget.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

The most recent game on this list, for many people, would work better as a series than as a video game. And we don’t blame them. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 can be a bit obtuse at times, but if anything is clear, it’s that its premise is fascinating and its world has much more potential to develop beyond what the video game does. Its own series could be a captivating fantasy story that a network like HBO would kill to sign.

Final Fantasy XVI

But speaking of HBO and fantasy, let’s not kid ourselves. Final Fantasy XVI has been systematically compared to Game of Thrones, and that invites us to think about the obvious, how great a Final Fantasy XVI series would be! Many people have issues with the game, particularly with its side quests and combat system, but the charisma of its characters and the depth of its story are undeniable. Something that could be perfectly exploited in a series that could build all of that in a masterful way.

Sleeping Dogs

Undercover cop stories always work, and Sleeping Dogs is not just that, but also the best GTA-style game that isn’t a GTA. A Sleeping Dogs series, with the same stylized lighting and focus on martial arts as the game, could work wonders. Something we can’t rule out, as Donnie Yen is very interested in making that happen.

El Paso Elsewhere

The least known game on this list is also one of the most fascinating. This game by Strange Scaffold puts us in the shoes of a vampire hunter who must kill his ex-girlfriend before she brings about the end of the world. But everything takes place in a motel where space and time have been distorted to shape the memories of those inside. The vampire hunter is a drug addict in rehabilitation. And his ex-girlfriend is Draculae, Count Dracula who has pretended to be a man to deceive humanity for centuries. If that doesn’t sound like an excellent prestige series, we don’t know what could.

Dead Rising

To conclude, let’s state something obvious. We love zombies. The best zombie series from Capcom is Resident Evil, but the second best, which has no kind of adaptation, is Dead Rising. And who could resist a completely crazy series where a group of survivors tries to survive against psychotic killers while defending themselves from hordes of zombies in a mix of horror and comedy? We tell you: we wouldn’t. We would be there on premiere day. And that’s why, Hollywood, take note: make series based on these games.

The highly anticipated release of DOOM: The Dark Ages has triggered a series of technical issues in its Steam version, causing great frustration among players who had pre-ordered the title. Since its early launch, which began today for those who pre-purchased editions of the game, significant bugs related to graphic settings have been reported, hindering the gaming experience for many users.

The culprits? Nvidia drivers

One of the most common mistakes involves unexpected game crashes, as well as freezes that force players to return to the Windows interface, which is attributed to issues with the new Nvidia drivers 576.40. Although these drivers are designated as Game Ready for DOOM: The Dark Ages, they have caused conflicts that prevent players from fully enjoying the game. Both id Software and Nvidia have acknowledged these issues and are working on a hotfix to resolve them.

Due to the inability to play, many users have found that reverting to the previous version of the drivers, 576.28, can eliminate the issues, although not everyone has had success with this solution. Despite the game’s warnings about using outdated drivers, players are encouraged to temporarily ignore these notifications for the sake of a better experience. It is also recommended to perform a clean installation of the new drivers, disable integrated graphics cards in the CPU, and use feedback forms to report errors, so that manufacturers can provide quick solutions.

In addition, other graphical issues have been reported that affect not only Nvidia users but also those with AMD cards. The complaints are varied and range from low performance to conflicts that can lead to blue screens. Developers are attentive to the complaints and are looking to implement improvements that can alleviate the situation; in the meantime, players must be patient and make use of the available temporary solutions.

We are just a few days away from the public launch of Doom: The Dark Age, the latest installment of the iconic id Software franchise, which continues to celebrate over 32 years of legacy in the video game industry. This new title uses the id Tech 8 engine, which incorporates advanced features such as ray tracing for global illumination, reflections, and shadows, similar to what was experienced in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle with its previous engine.

Ray tracing and the lack of optimization do not help it work on portable devices

One of the main features of the game is its ability to run on portable gaming PCs, such as the Asus ROG Ally. However, users should be aware that they may experience performance drops and stability issues, partly due to the availability of outdated drivers. This situation has been a source of frustration for many, as updating the GPU drivers on the ROG Ally has become a complicated process, unlike the ease of updating offered by AMD’s desktop and laptop versions.

During the testing phase, Doom: The Dark Ages was able to run on low graphical settings with FSR Performance, achieving around 30 fps, although these figures only held for about 40 seconds before the drivers failed. This limitation significantly reduces the visual quality and overall gaming experience, especially regarding ray tracing effects, which are compromised by the upscaling that makes the image blurry.

As more developers adopt ray tracing as a standard in their titles, it becomes imperative for portable console vendors like Asus to improve their driver update processes. Without an effective solution, the performance of these devices could become obsolete against the demands of future, more demanding games.

Buyers who opted for the pre-order will be able to start playing on the night of May 12, generating considerable anticipation among fans of the franchise.

You can start playing it now if you bought it on time

One of the novelties of this release is the use of the term advanced access, which differs from the traditional early access. This approach indicates that players who have pre-purchased will receive clear benefits over those who enter the game at its official launch. For players in Africa and Eurasia, access will begin in the early hours of May 13, which also reflects Bethesda’s attention to the different time zones of the world.

In addition, the preload for Doom: The Dark Ages is now active for PC. Both users who chose the early access option and those who opted for the standard pre-order can start downloading the game before its release. Bethesda has released an official map detailing the release times by region, making it easier for players to know when they can access the game based on their location;

However, for those who did not pre-order, the wait will be until the afternoon of May 14 in North and South America. The anticipation for this title is high, although some critics see it as less innovative than Doom Eternal. While the gaming community eagerly awaits, the return of Doomguy promises to offer more action and challenges in the expanded universe of the saga.

Starfield has loading screens for a very good reason

Despite recurring criticism from players, loading screens are considered a necessary evil in video game development, especially in RPGs, according to statements from Bruce Nesmith, a former employee of Bethesda. In an industry that has seen significant advancements in technology, including SSD storage systems that allow for faster loading, Bethesda has chosen to keep these screens as an essential part of its game design.

Bethesda knows they couldn’t make the game any other way

Nesmith, who worked on iconic titles like Oblivion and was involved in the development of Starfield, argues that loading screens are essential due to the complex nature of open worlds and the rich narratives that characterize Bethesda’s RPGs. Unlike games with more linear narratives, which can hide loading times through smooth transitions, RPGs require a different processing of content and events that cannot always be done seamlessly.

Although some developers have found innovative ways to disguise loading screens, as evidenced in recent titles where black fades or passages requiring interactions are used, Bethesda chooses to maintain this mechanic to prioritize the quality of the gaming experience. In this sense, the company seems committed to preserving the essence of what they consider a great RPG, avoiding compromises that could affect the narrative richness of their sagas.

Additionally, Bethesda has been on a constant release streak, offering titles that go directly to Game Pass, including remasters and definitive editions of their beloved franchises, such as DOOM and Quake. While loading screens are a debated aspect among users, it is clear that Bethesda does not plan to eliminate them, at least not without considering their impact on the overall gaming experience.

This installment of the iconic action saga focuses on a renewed narrative approach, showcasing an apocalyptic setting where a villain – reminiscent of a character from Hellraiser – puts humanity in check from a ship inspired by the Warhammer 40,000 universe and leads an army of demons.

The trailer opens with a strong dose of history and introduces the Doom Slayer, who is unleashed to combat this threat, becoming a tool of maximum destruction.

Bethesda surprises fans with the trailer for Doom: The Dark Ages about Oblivion Remastered

As the action unfolds, various weapons can be seen, including a throwable shield and a stylish bow, as well as a combat system that emphasizes parries.

However, the adaptation of the game has generated criticism among some players because ‘glory kills’ are now mainly reserved for larger bosses, which reduces the spectacular nature of these executions on common enemies.

Despite the controversy, Doom: The Dark Ages offers innovative mechanics, such as the ability to pilot a mech and ride a dragon, elements that have captured the attention of fans.

Hell's reckoning is coming.

Gameplay has been described as surprisingly focused on the parry, although some critics, like Joshua Wolens, have pointed out that this new direction has left a void in the brutality of executions by limiting the variety of creative moves of the past.

The game is set to launch on May 15, and users can add it to their wishlist on Steam. Additionally, the trailer premiere coincided with wrestler Drew McIntyre’s entrance at Wrestlemania, which was also adorned with a *Doom* theme, generating comparisons between both events in the realm of entertainment.

Doom: The Dark Ages presents a new trailer showing that a crossbow can do more than a BFG

During the recent Easter weekend, video game fans were surprised by the release of the trailer for Doom: The Dark Ages, instead of the highly anticipated trailer for Oblivion Remastered. To counter this threat, humans decide to unleash the Doom Slayer, using him as a powerful weapon.

The trailer highlights a renewed focus on combat, prioritizing close-range elimination mechanics instead of the characteristic glory kills. The executions have been simplified and are now mainly reserved for the major demon bosses, which has sparked some debate among fans.

The Doom Slayer, increasingly medieval

Despite these reservations, the trailer showcases a series of novel weapons including a throwable shield and a crossbow that resembles the BFG, along with the ability to pilot a mech or ride a dragon, which adds an element of excitement to the game. Doom: The Dark Ages is scheduled to be released on May 15, and users will be able to add it to their wishlist on Steam.

It is worth noting that the trailer launch coincided with wrestler Drew McIntyre’s entry at Wrestlemania, which paled in comparison to the impressive presentation of the new title. Although fans are hoping for more information, rumors may arise about possible features or future expansions of the game, which could continue to fuel the excitement surrounding this anticipated release.

And we are going to show you that this is not a bad idea with this series of mods for the original Doom that literally turn it into a completely different game.

Brutal Doom

The classic among classics. 32 levels of pure madness that take the level design of the two original Dooms and elevate it to a new level by making it even harder, even more brutal, and just as fun. With tons of secrets and optional challenges, it is the mod you must play if you haven’t played any Doom mod. An absolute must-have.

Space Cats Saga

We start the madness with one of the most recent mods for the game. A total conversion of the game in four chapters that puts us in the shoes of a cat girl who must investigate an abandoned spaceship on Mars. With new weapons, a more anime aesthetic, and a pace as frantic as one would expect, it’s everything you expect from classic Doom, plus something new: excellent melee combat.

Ashes 2063

Something we will have to mention twice is that a Doom mod is going to have an independent version becoming a full video game. This is the first one. Ashes 2063 is a total conversion that turns Doom into a much more serious and darker kind of Fallout, with small RPG elements, featuring some of the best-designed weapons we have seen in a Doom mod. An absolute must-have that has a sequel and another sequel on the way.

My House

In 2023, this Doom II map made a huge noise even outside the Doom community. And it’s no wonder. Inspired by Mark Z. Danielewski’s House of Leaves, the premise of this map is very simple: we have to clear a house of demons that is bigger on the inside than on the outside. Except that it quickly turns into a narrative journey between dimensions, with a constantly changing house that hides many more things than you could imagine. A whole journey that still holds surprises, two years later.

The Inquisitor

Shadowman is one of the great level designers in Doom, and he proved it with the trilogy The Inquisitor, one of the largest and absolutely unique levels in the history of the game. Making use of numerous visual effects, filled with undead and featuring many new weapons, its medieval-style setting grows with each installment to become one of the deepest and most underrated RPG Shooters in history in the exquisite The Inquisitor III.

Total Chaos

Few survival horror games are as scary as Total Chaos. Being able to compete on equal footing with any AAA game, we will have to manage our inventory, consider our stamina, and the breakage of our weapons, which are not exactly abundant. All of this in a tremendously gloomy atmosphere and against enemies that will never leave us in peace. If this sounds good to you, it will be released independently as its own video game this year. Something well-deserved that we can’t wait to experience.

BLOOM

Doom is great, but Blood is the other great shooter from the early 90s that we shouldn’t forget. BLOOM knows this, and that’s why it is the fusion of both concepts: an adventure where we can choose the protagonist from Doom or Blood to confront an adventure that is absolutely unique, like a sick nightmare that is a pleasure to be living, with absolutely masterful level design.

Sonic Robo Blast 2

To finish, nothing beats the craziest ball imaginable. Because you might think that Doom is only good for FPS. You might think that the best 3D Sonic should have been made by SEGA. But if you think that, you would be wrong on both counts. Doom can also be used to make 3D platform games, and the Sonic Team Junior, which has no affiliation with SEGA, created with its engine Sonic Robo Blast 2, the best 3D Sonic game. An absolute delight that you shouldn’t miss, even if you don’t care about Doom at all.

Doom finally receives a version with all its content over the years

Bethesda and Nightdive Studios have released a remaster of Doom and Doom II that incorporates not only the base games but also the master levels, Final Doom, and a new campaign titled Legacy of Rust. This effort to update the classic shooter stands out by bringing together all the additional adventures of Doom under one roof, providing fans with a robust and complete experience.

Doom is complete more than 30 years later

However, one of the highlights of this remastering was the omission of Sigil 2, designed by the iconic John Romero, co-creator of Doom. Initially, Sigil 2, which had been presented as a mod, is now officially integrated into the game’s library, completing the saga. This inclusion comes after a recent patch that also addressed minor bugs and compatibility issues with mods. Now, Sigil 2, which features larger and more challenging maps, appears on the game’s selection screen alongside other official episodes.

Romero has indicated that Sigil 2 was designed with a higher level of difficulty than Sigil 1, making it almost impossible to complete its levels without saving progress, unlike its predecessor. The reason behind the absence of Sigil 2 at the initial launch could be attributed to licensing obstacles that Bethesda was unable to resolve in time, despite the fact that several months have passed since its release in December 2023.

Not only that, on May 15, the release of Doom: The Dark Ages is expected, a prequel that has received positive early reviews. This new title promises to offer a different experience, challenging expectations about the series and generating excitement among fans for what it will bring. As can be seen, the universe of Doom continues to expand, strengthening its legacy in the world of video games.
