5 most mind-blowing details in Red Dead Redemption 2

You won’t believe how far Rockstar went to make RDR2 realistic.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is easily the most in-depth game Rockstar has created to date. The attention to detail is almost overwhelming, encompassing everything from the smallest blade of grass to the citizens of the largest city. It feels like a living, breathing world, and is so intricate that it’s easy to miss the most mind-blowing details that take Red Dead 2 to the next level. Read on to find five of the most jaw-dropping flourishes in Rockstar’s Wild West epic.

5 most mind-blowing details in Red Dead Redemption 2

5. Arthur’s hair grows over time

red dead redemption 2 arthur shaving
Arthur shaving.

In most open world games, you can change your hairstyle simply by walking into the nearest barber shop. Not so in Red Dead. If you want longer hairstyles, you’ll have to be patient. Arthur’s hair and beard will grow naturally over time. You’ll have to regularly shave and trim it to keep it short, or wait for it to grow out if you want a more mountain-man look or want to play with longer hairstyles. Think carefully before you make your choice, because it does take a while for an undercut to grow back in!

4. The game has an ambient temperature

red dead redemption 2 weather
Arthur in hotter weather.

Of course, you have your basic ambient weather like rain and snow, but in Red Dead 2, the game actually keeps track of the ambient temperature. You’ll see it in a pop-up every time you enter a new location as an actual value in degrees Fahrenheit. This isn’t just for show, either. Arthur needs to dress for the weather. This means short sleeves for the heat, and heavy coats for the cold. If not, his Cores will drain faster and impact his health and other passive stats. Good practice is to store outfits suited for hot and cold on your horse and switch between them as the need arises.

3. Arthur can lose or gain weight

red dead redemption 2 food
Eating stew.

Like most things in Red Dead 2, food isn’t just for show. Eating or not eating can grant stat boosts and other benefits. It’ll also change Arthur’s appearance. Grabbing a meal at camp or in the local saloon will bulk up Arthur’s figure. Going for a long period without eating will cause him to slim down. Don’t worry, you won’t die of starvation if you forget to eat, but you will see your stats being negatively affected if you don’t grab a bite every now and then.

2. Bullet holes can sink boats

red dead redemption 2 boats
A pair of canoes.

Boats and swimming are a new addition in Red Dead 2, with Arthur able to take boats and row out across lakes for travel or to find a good fishing spot. Think twice before you go shotgun fishing, though. Hitting your boat with a stray bullet will cause it to slowly fill with water and eventually sink, forcing you to swim back to shore. We won’t be rowing our way into gun battles anytime soon.

1. Arrows will quiver after hitting their targets

red dead redemption 2 arrow
An arrow in its target.

Weapons in Red Dead 2 are insanely detailed. On firearms, each part from the cylinder to the hammer is functional, and you have to manually cock the hammer between shots before firing again. You also have to clean and maintain firearms as they wear out over time. The bow, though seemingly simple, also has little details of its own. Firing an arrow into a hard target, like a tree, will cause the arrow to quiver slightly after it embeds itself, just like it would in real life.

These five details are just the tip of the iceberg. Red Dead is filled to the brim with tiny details like this that add up to make the game into a totally unique and deep experience. Keep your eyes peeled while you play and you might be shocked at what you find.

Schools use AI to fight vaping

vaping

Isn’t that the most 2018 headline you’ve ever read?

If you know anyone who’s in middle or high school, they’ll tell you that school bathrooms are foggier than Silent Hill. Over the past year, vaping went from an uncool habit done exclusively by 25-year-olds who wear Monster snapbacks to an extremely common teen pastime. Teens vape so much in school, that a common joke is “Dude, why are there toilets in the Juul room?”

The meteoric rise in vaping’s popularity among teens is due to the Juul. Whereas previous vaping devices were large, boxy and clunky, the Juul is streamlined, sleek, and subtle, looking way cooler while being significantly easier to hide. The nicotine content in a Juul pod (disposable cartridges that hold the vape juice) is significantly higher than most other vape devices, providing a more immediate and intense buzz. Combine all these factors and it’s easy to see why Juuls became so popular.

The days of sneaking smoking cigarettes in the bathroom are long gone. Unlike cigarettes, Juuls don’t leave behind a smell for very long, either in the air or on the user’s clothes, making it much harder to catch in the act. To fight this advancement in smoking technology, teachers are turning to AI.

The Fly Sense, developed by Soter Technologies, is a device that analyzes water vapor levels in the air. Take a look:

First, the device is calibrated to detect what the vapor content of the room is like normally (which in most cases is the school bathroom). Then, when a nearby student vapes, the device detects a change in the air. It then proceeds to send alerts to the phones of relevant teachers and faculty members, giving them ample time to storm the bathroom and catch the unfortunate student. The Fly Sense uses machine learning AI to detect specific water vapor levels that match certain vape juices, including being able to detect the presence of cannabis.

The AI vape detector market is surprisingly (and hilariously) intense, with multiple companies scrambling to get their products into schools. The Fly Sense seems to be winning, having been deployed in more than 200 schools across the U.S. and Canada.

Schools aren’t the only audiences of this technology. Juuls are also popular among college students and adults, prompting an increasing number of offices and workplaces to ban vaping and install anti-vaping technology like Fly Sense.

What do you think about the vaping phenomenon? Let us know!

3 billionaires racing to build the future of space travel

Space travel is making huge strides because of three wealthy visionaries.

How billionaires are influencing private space travel

It’s been a great year for space travel.

Early this year, after President Trump signed the Omnibus Bill, NASA miraculously received $20.7 billion, the highest amount since the 2009 stimulus package. The Trump Administration’s proposed 2018 budget was seen by many as a “War on Science,” but when the bill was actually voted on most of NASA’s budgets were increased or remained uncut, shocking the scientific community. This is surprising as Republican senators have historically been opposed to climate and earth-based research, some of which is carried out by NASA.

After a few decades of budget cuts and stagnation, NASA’s revitalized budget has caused much celebration. However, for many years it looked like NASA had been all but abandoned by the federal government. This drought led various entrepreneurs (mostly billionaires who established their fortune in other industries) to create their own private space companies.

The goal of these private space companies is to greatly reduce the cost of space travel, making it viable and realistic to achieve lofty goals such as colonizing the moon and Mars. This new private space industry, dubbed NewSpace, is high-profile, brutally competitive, and utterly fascinating.

Here are some of the top players in NewSpace right now:

Elon Musk

Elon Musk is easily the most high-profile player in NewSpace. In 2002, the PayPal co-founder used his enormous wealth to fund SpaceX, of which he is the lead designer and CEO. Though his eccentricities and hasty Twitter fingers have often led him in hot water, Musk has nonetheless become the face of NewSpace. Musk famously has extremely high ambitions for SpaceX, with plans for the colonization of Mars within his lifetime.

SpaceX has had a number of high-profile rocket launches, with its most famous being the Falcon series of rockets. Notably, SpaceX is currently working on its BFR (Big Falcon Rocket or Big F***ing Rocket) series of spacecraft, which will allow rockets to be reused and relanded automatically instead of being discarded. This would dramatically reduce costs for space flight missions, a stated goal of Musk and SpaceX.

SpaceX has scored a recent string of victories, including a successful Falcon launch for an Argentine satellite, establishing contracts with the U.S. government to send astronauts up to the International Space Station, and his collaboration with Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa for the #dearmoon artistic lunar tourism mission.

Jeff Bezos

Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos is currently the richest person in the world, with a net worth of over $150 billion. He formed the private space company Blue Origin in 2000 as a response to what he saw as government negligence to space travel. The company has a troubled history of fabled launches, though fortunately for it Bezos has more than enough money to keep it afloat.

Blue Origin is notably both less flamboyant and more secretive than SpaceX. Despite this, the two companies share a heated rivalry categorized by legal disputes and Twitter flame wars. Like its rival, Blue Origin has been slowly gaining more valuable government contracts and security clearances. Blue Origin’s current main goal is to create affordable sub-orbital space tourism. Tickets are going on sale next year for the low, low price of $300,000. In the future, Bezos has said that establishing a permanent Moon colony is Blue Origin’s ultimate goal.

Yuri Millner

Russian dot-com billionaire Yuri Millner launched Breakthrough Initiatives in 2015. While he plays a part in NewSpace, BI’s goals are decidedly different from both SpaceX and Blue Origin. Instead of looking to reduce the cost of space travel, Breakthrough Initiative’s goal is to find and make contact with extraterrestrial intelligent life.

Breakthrough Initiative is comprised of three main departments: Breakthrough Listen, Breakthrough Message, and Breakthrough Starshot. Breakthrough Listen utilizes various observatories to listen for “radio and laser signals from the nearest million stars, the nearest 100 galaxies, and the plane and center of the Milky Way.” Over $100 million is being invested in Listen over the next 10 years.

Breakthrough Message offers a million dollar prize for people to submit messages that would be transmitted to alien civilizations. Whichever messages win, there would be an international panel that votes on whether the messages are both ethical and properly represent humanity. Lastly, Breakthrough Starshot is a project that would utilize light sails traveling at 20% the speed of light in order to reach Alpha Centauri, a journey that would take 20 years of travel plus an additional 4 years to transmit a message back to Earth.

What do you think about all of the people and companies mentioned? Do you think they’ll be able to accomplish their goals? Let us know!

This Google News bug could be eating your entire data plan

A bug in the Google News app has been consuming up to 24GB of users’ data without their knowledge

Google bug wasting mobile data

Unlimited data plans are rare and expensive beasts these days. Hardly anybody has them. The closest you normally find will offer huge amounts of data like 10GB, 20GB, and sometimes more but you just don’t see unlimited data plans anymore. The fact that none of us have unlimited data plans on our phones anymore means we’re all vulnerable to this latest Google bug that is doing the rounds. Even if you have generous data plan that gives you more gigabytes than you could ever dream of using you still need to watch out.

A bug in the Google News app has been consuming up to 24GB of users’ data without their knowledge

The problem first started occurring back in June. A number of Google News users began noticing that their data allowance was being drained. Once they looked into on their devices, they noticed that the Google News app was consuming a lot more data than it should be. The users took their findings to various forums including the Google News help forums, Twitter, and Reddit. They soon found that they were not alone. There were dozens of other users who were noticing the same problem.

Users have reported that the app has burned through huge amounts of data very quickly. The most extreme cases have seen up to 24GB worth of data blasted away in no time at all. One particularly unlucky Google News user saw his monthly bill come in with a staggering $385 worth of over usage charges.

Google has recognized and verified the problem, as it has been on the official Google News forums. A Google News community manager had this to say back on September 27. “The relevant teams are currently investigating and working towards a fix, and we’ll be posting updates directly to this thread. We may also reach out if there is additional troubleshooting info that would be helpful in our investigation.” The problem now though is there is still no solution in sight and users are still reporting heavy data allowance losses through their Google News app.

This Google bug has been reported by users both in the U.S. and the U.K. If you have Google News, it is a good idea to take action to make sure you don’t fall victim to sudden data usage spikes and potential charges for overuse.

How to solve the problem

With no official fix in sight, there are only two potential fixes. The first is to disable background data for Google News. This will stop the bug from being able to hammer your data allowance whenever you’re not connected to Wi-Fi. Failing that, all you have left is the nuclear option. Delete Google News, at least until Google releases a patch that takes care of the bug. If enough users go down, the second route it might give Google an added incentive to get a patch out sooner rather than later.

Google teams up with the #MeToo movement

You can use this Google tool to see how big an effect the #MeToo movement has had around the world in its first year

Google has teamed up with #MeToo movement

Whatever your personal opinion about Google’s business practices might be, the search giant has run some pretty amazing projects to shine a light on some of the world’s darkest issues. We’ve seen Google team up with UNHCR to highlight the plight of Syrian refugees and the toll the civil war has taken on their homeland.

We’ve also seen Google work with laser scanning and digital photography specialists to preserve world heritage monuments that could fall prey to natural disasters or political strife.

More recently, Google has been working hard alongside the #MeToo movement in a bid to show the world just how many people have been subjected to sexual harassment, sexual assault, or worse.

You can use this Google tool to see how big an effect the #MeToo movement has had around the world in its first year

Me Too Rising takes data from Google Trends and displays it in an easy to digest manner. You can use the tool to see how people have been searching for the phrase in different cities around the world. For those wishing to dismiss the movement as a bourgeoisie western movement only, Me Too Rising proves otherwise. The #MeToo movement has empowered people around the world to talk about their experiences and highlight a huge global problem that needs to be eradicated. Yes, people have searched for #MeToo in 195 countries around the world. That is every single country.

The movement exploded last year in the wake of dozens of sexual assault and rape allegations were leveled against high-powered movie mogul Harvey Weinstein. Within 24 hours of actress Alyssa Milano asking her fans to tweet “Me Too” if they’d also been victims of sexual assault, over half a million people had responded. The response on Facebook was also huge with a reported 12 million posts and comments, relating to the phrase, being published in the 24 hours following tweet. From there it just grew and grew.

According to Malika Saada Saar, who leads the team behind Me Too Rising, the project is designed to show how the movement has spread awareness all over the globe. “Me Too Rising shows what it looks like when we all become a little more aware of sexual assault and violence. When enough survivors speak up, the world not only listens; it searches for answers.”

The movement has grown and people around the world can now talk with a collective voice. Me Too Rising highlights how that voice has developed over the last year, but it also recognizes that words and data alone cannot solve this problem. In a bid to go further than merely presenting the data, Me Too Rising also lists resources for sexual assault victims.

This search console will appear in inside search results for hotels

If you’ve ever used Google to search for flights, you’ll be familiar with the types of customization options and toggles that Google has included in this new hotel experience. Simply searching for something like “hotels in Lima” will open the new hotel search panel, which includes all the new hotel specific search options.

The new panel will appear in the search results and will allow users to enter the dates of their stay as well as selecting options like, “Guest favorites,” “Budget options,” “Luxury stays,” and, “For tonight.” The new panel will also show the top hotel results as well as a map showing the locations of the hotels Google has listed. At the bottom of the panel is a button that says, “See … results.” This will show how many hotels Google has listed for that particular location and clicking it will open up the full Google Hotels search engine.

Google Hotels available on both mobile and desktop
The full Google Hotels search console

Once you’ve opened the full Google Hotels search console, you’ll be able to customize a whole range of filters and options. These include the city, the dates of the stay, and the number of people in the booking, as well as a slider for setting the price range.

Other filters include guest ratings of hotels and a range of hotel amenities like Wi-Fi, swimming pools, TV etc. As well as guest ratings, the search engine will also be able to filter by official star rating and will also include an option to search for vacation rentals rather than hotel rooms. Clicking on a particular hotel or vacation rental result will show more information and offer various partners and agents available to make a booking.

In a blog post announcing the new feature, Google mentioned that on the new Hotels console users, “…can browse hotel results easily with:

  • Photos from the hotel or fellow travelers
  • Hotel information, such as neighborhood and location.
  • Hotel reviews from around the web that can be searched by keywords like ‘air conditioning.’”

This new service has already begun rolling out globally so if you’re planning a trip head over to Google and start searching for hotels. We’d love to hear about your experiences with the new search console in the comments below.

You can trade your personal data for a cup of coffee. Should you?

An international chain of coffee shops called Shiru Café will give you a cup of coffee in exchange for your personal data

It can be hard to understand the value of something that you can’t hold in your hand or see. Our personal data is a prime example of this. We hand it over to access online services without giving a second’s thought to what it is actually worth.

To make the matter even more complicated, the online services themselves are not something we can touch either. We trade our data for access instead of ownership. This makes it even harder to comprehend what we are giving up because we can’t really understand what we are getting in return. Do you think you’d have a better understanding of what your personal data was worth, if you received something physical in exchange for it? Let’s find out.

An international chain of coffee shops called Shiru Café will give you a cup of coffee in exchange for your personal data

coffee
How much is your private data worth to you?

Shiru Café has one branch near Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island and is opening new coffee shops near Harvard, Yale, and Princeton as well as Amherst College.

The way the Shiru system works is students offer information like their name, email, college, major, year in school, and professional interests in exchange for a coffee. This information is then used by the corporate brands, that pay for the running of the coffee shop, to target students that might be suitable for positions they’re looking to fill.

We give over this type of information all the time in exchange for access to services like Facebook and Gmail but exchanging it for something as tangible as a cup of coffee creates a new way of looking what our data is actually worth. Although Shiru claims its business model is a new and advanced way of monetizing your personal data, it is still a basic system.

In essence, all they’ve done is offer a basic incentive for putting some advanced personal data down onto an advanced recruiters mailing list. This reality is borne out by the fact that Shiru expects upwards of 75% of all Brown students will have registered with the Brown University branch of Shiru by the end of the semester.

The model would be much more interesting and enlightening if students were able to haggle. I’ll let you know my major if you throw in a Danish with my coffee. Much more could be learned then about how people see their data and how much they think it is worth. Either that, or you would just get a long line of poor and hungry students trying to peddle their personal data for a few bites of an artisanal panini.

The fact is that trading your personal data for a cup of coffee isn’t going to give you a better understanding what it is worth. On a cold Monday morning, however, it will give you a very clear understanding that it is worth something. Considering we give our data away all the time, often without knowing it, any initiative that makes us understand the situation a little better should be seen as positive.

The next-gen feature that makes Windows Defender Antivirus even stronger

Microsoft Windows Defender Antivirus can now run in a sandbox, but what does that actually mean?

Why is it important that Windows Defender Antivirus can run in a sandbox?

Microsoft has really done an excellent job with the security features it has built into Windows 10. Windows Defender is now so well regarded that some experts say you don’t need a premium antivirus to protect your device, Defender is enough. Over the last few days, this claim has gained even more credibility as Microsoft has announced the introduction of a sandbox mode to Windows Defender Antivirus. Let’s take a look at what this actually means.

Windows Defender Free Download ►
7

What is a sandbox in an antivirus program?

A sandbox is a simpler way of saying a restrictive process environment. This means that Windows Defender can run itself separate from the rest of Windows. As antivirus programs often have high levels of permission on devices and access to key systems they themselves can end up being high value targets for hackers and thieves. Running separate from the rest of Windows provides an added layer of security as it means any successful attempt to compromise Windows Defender Antivirus does not put the rest of the system at risk.

According to Microsoft, the addition of a sandbox to Windows Defender comes from consultation with industry experts and wasn’t easy to achieve.  “Putting Windows Defender Antivirus in a restrictive process execution environment is a direct result of feedback that we received from the security industry and the research community. It was a complex undertaking: we had to carefully study the implications of such an enhancement on performance and functionality.” Although there have been no reported incidents of malicious code taking advantage of Defender’s high system privileges, Microsoft believed the possibility, as raised by the research community, was enough to warrant action.

The addition of a sandbox sets Windows Defender Antivirus apart from all other free antivirus programs. Microsoft claims Defender is the first complete antivirus solution.

For now, though, this new powerful feature is only available for members of Microsoft’s Insider Program, which is Microsoft’s beta testing community for new Windows 10 features. You may remember that it was members of the Insider Program who Microsoft ignored when they pushed out the recent October 2018 update that ended up deleting user’s files.

With a lot of bad stories relating to Microsoft hitting the news recently, like the recent Windows 10 update scandal, it is good to see Microsoft moving forward positively on a user protection issue. Not only is it good for the company’s image, ultimately, this is great news for all Windows 10 users who now have less of a security headache to deal with. As Windows Defender Antivirus moves towards being the complete antivirus solution some people have been calling it for some time now, users can breathe easier knowing their systems will be safe thanks to Microsoft’s efforts and a bit of a personal common sense.

Fortnitemares: The Complete Guide

Use our guide to navigate Fortnitemares before it all ends!

Fortnite’s mysterious Cube has finally revealed its true intentions, opening a portal in the sky above Leaky Lake and unleashing untold eldritch horrors on the Fortnite map. This limited-time Halloween event, dubbed Fortnitemares, is chock full of ghoulish new content. Take a look below for an overview of what’s been added for the new event.

Fortnitemares: The Complete Guide

New Enemies

fortnite fortnitemares cube monsters
The cube fragments.

The blighted areas on the Fortnite map are now home to a new enemy, and no, it’s not other players. For the first time, NPCs are coming to the Battle Royale map. Cube Monsters are shambling, zombie-like abominations that spawn from the Cube Fragments, pictured above. They patrol the blighted areas and will viciously attack anyone that comes too close. They’re not just threats, though: killing them will yield small bonuses to your shields, and they’ll also drop a huge variety of weapons and loot.

The Cube Monsters also have their own set of challenges, introduced as part of the update. Fortnitemares challenges  present objectives such as killing a certain number of these ghouls to earn cosmetic rewards like unique gliders and emotes. Players that drop into the blighted areas will have to be doubly aware of both the monsters and enemy players as they fight to survive, but can also use these ghouls to their advantage: enemies that are distracted by the hordes are easy targets. If you want to stop the enemies from spawning, you can also destroy the cube fragments themselves. It’ll take quite a bit of ammo, but you’ll be rewarded with some rare gear for your efforts.

New Skins

The new Battle Bus.

Players will have noticed a spooky new Battle Bus reskin on dropping in, complete with a creepy Halloween background music track. This Battle Bus reskin is only the tip of the iceberg, however. The Item Shop has seen a steady stream of spooky skins, with the new ghostly cowboy Deadfire heading up the lineup.

fortnite fortnitemares deadfire
The Deadfire skin.

Deadfire is a cowboy who was caught in a blast of the cube’s mysterious energy, imbuing him with spectral powers. A Legendary skin, you can choose between Deadfire’s human or ghoulish forms. It’s also Fortnite’s first reactive skin: getting a certain number of kills in battle will cause ghostly green flames to erupt from the outfit. The outfit has been rotating regularly through the Item Shop since the start of the event, and can be obtained for 2,000 V-Bucks. The rest of the Western Wilds set, including a glider, harvesting tool, and Shackled Stone back bling item can be obtained by completing limited time Fortnitemares challenges.

New Weapons

fortnitemares six shooter
The Six Shooter.

Rounding out the lineup are several new weapons. In keeping with Deadfire’s cowboy theme, players will now be able to find the Six Shooter in game. This Wild West era revolver has two distinct firing modes. Aiming down the sights will allow players to take accurate long-range shots at distant players, at the expense of a slower fire rate. Firing from the hip, however, will let players fan the hammer and fire all six shots in rapid succession. It’s less accurate, but great for dealing with up-close enemies.

The Fiend Hunter Crossbow will be a familiar addition to older players, who will recognize the weapon from previous seasons. It’s back with a cosmetic reskin, and has many distinct advantages. Firstly, the weapon has infinite ammo. Though the magazine size is limited and players will have to go through a lengthy reload, you won’t have to hunt for additional ammo: your reserves are unlimited, meaning you can fire away without worrying.

Finally, the Pumpkin Rocket Launcher is back. This reskin for the standard Rocket Launcher replaces the warhead with a giant grinning Jack-O-Latern, which cackles wildly when launched at enemy players. Aside from cosmetic differences, it’s functionally the same as its less spooky counterpart.

If you haven’t experienced these Halloween themed goodies yet, you still have time: Fortnitemares ends Sunday, November 4 with a one-time event that will occur at 1 p.m. EST. You won’t want to miss this one!

Red Dead 2: 5 things you didn’t know about your horse

Here’s how to make the most out of your mighty steed in Red Dead Redemption 2.

In the cutthroat world of the Wild West, you can only count on two things: your gun and your horse. In Red Dead Redemption 2, your horse is your most faithful companion, and it’s more than just a way to get around. You can use it to store weapons, transport cargo, and even gain an advantage in gunfights. Take a look at the five tips below to make sure you’re getting the most out of your trusty steed.

5 things you didn’t know about your horse in Red Dead Redemption 2

1. You can own more than one horse

red dead redemption 2 arthur and horse

There are several different types of horses available in Red Dead 2, each with their own set of unique attributes. War Horses, for example, are large goliaths that do well for mounted combat, but aren’t necessarily the fastest beasts around. Fortunately, you can own multiple horses, which will allow you to switch between the different types to best suit your situation. You can keep your owned horses at camp or at a stable, and can switch between them by simply removing your saddle from your existing horse and placing it on your new horse to make it your primary.

2. Your horse can learn new tricks

Though you can switch between horses as often as you like, it pays to be loyal and build up a bond with your horse. After spending time with the same horse doing things like feeding, petting, and grooming it, your bond level will increase. As this bond increases, so will your horse’s stats, as well as the range from which you can whistle to it. In addition to these passive stat increases, your horse will also learn new moves, such as drift turns and sliding stops.

3. Your gear isn’t just cosmetic

red dead redemption 2 horse gear

You can customize your horse’s saddle and appearance at any Stable on the map, allowing you to pick different styles and make the horse your own. These customizations aren’t just cosmetic, though. Better saddles will increase your horse’s stamina core and prevent it from draining quickly. Saddlebags will increase the amount of clothing and preset outfits you can store on your horse. Stirrups will boost your horse’s speed.

4. You can name your horse

red dead redemption 2 stable

In addition to offering grooming services and cosmetic and gear upgrades for your horse, Stables will also allow you to name any horse that you own. Simply head to the Tack and Services section of the main stable menu and you’ll see an option that will let you name your horse. Simply type in the name you’d like, but don’t worry. If you decide you want to change the horse’s name, you can do so at any time by using this same method.

5. You can use your horse to fast travel

red dead redemption 2 riding

Red Dead 2 is an overwhelmingly large game, but fast travel options are rather limited. By upgrading Arthur’s tent at camp, you can fast travel to a number of major locations on the map, but you won’t be able to fast travel back to camp or between locations unless you take the train or use a stagecoach. Fortunately, you can use your horse to “fast travel” between locations. Simply open the map, mark the location you want to head to with a waypoint, and then ride your horse to the nearest main road. Once you’re on the road, simply switch to the game’s cinematic camera and your horse will ride itself to the waypoint, leaving you to sit back and enjoy the view instead of having to manually ride your horse across half the map.

There’s no bond stronger than that between a cowboy and his horse. With these useful tips in mind, you’ll become the Wild West’s very own horse whisperer.
