Cyberpunk 2077 was supposed to have a second DLC that never saw the light of day

Since its launch, Cyberpunk 2077 has come a surprising way from being considered one of the biggest disappointments in the industry to becoming one of the best RPGs of all time. CD Projekt RED has worked tirelessly to improve the gaming experience, releasing numerous updates, including the successful update 2.0 and the DLC expansion “Phantom Liberty” that have revitalized the perception of the title.

A DLC that would have connected the game with the series

Despite these advancements, the study had to cancel a second DLC that was in development, a decision that many attribute to the team’s dedication to polishing and optimizing the original game. Details about this canceled content were leaked, suggesting that the expansion was set on the moon, which would have been a unique but ambitious experience for the franchise. Concept art and design data related to this DLC have appeared online, generating both interest and speculation among fans.

Meanwhile, CD Projekt RED’s plans do not end with Cyberpunk 2077, as they are working on its sequel, known as Project Orion. The developers are looking for new ways to explore the Cyberpunk universe, and there is hope that some of the ideas from the canceled DLC will be integrated into this new project. However, the studio’s main focus seems to be on The Witcher IV, another of their flagship titles.

Finally, it has been confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on the Nintendo Switch 2 console, which will expand its accessibility to an even larger audience. This new release underscores CD Projekt RED’s ongoing commitment to its player community, demonstrating that the development of the franchise is an undue and constantly evolving effort.

The arrival of Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition on PlayStation 5 marks a new milestone in the history of the iconic real-time strategy game. More than 25 years have passed since its original release, and although the title also came to PlayStation 2 back in the day, this updated version promises to offer a much more faithful and optimized experience for modern players. The adaptation has been remarkable, allowing users to compete with a controller in a game that has traditionally been associated with keyboard and mouse.

With a DLC that places us in the most flourishing era of China: The Three Kingdoms

The title not only brings the classic gameplay that has delighted fans for decades, but it also includes a new DLC inspired by the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, featuring five Chinese civilizations and three new campaigns. This additional content, available for 19.99 euros, is designed for those who enjoy single-player adventures, although its inclusion of heroes and unique abilities has sparked divisions among game purists, who believe that these elements disrupt the balance in multiplayer matches.

Despite the controversy, the overall response to the new DLC has been positive, especially regarding the visual quality and mission design. However, some critics have pointed out that the new civilizations do not bring significantly different features compared to the existing ones. With the addition of two extra difficulty levels, Very Easy and Legendary, the game offers challenges for both veterans and new players.

For those who have a PS5 or play on Xbox, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition presents itself as an experience worth exploring. The interface is intuitive and the game allows for keyboard and mouse connection for those seeking a traditional experience. With its ongoing success, Age of Empires II proves to be a classic that continues to provide fun and entertainment to generations of players.

With its charming pixel art, turn-based gameplay, and captivating soundtrack, it has managed to attract a base of millions of players. Now, the title from Sabotage Studio offers a new reason to return to the world of Zale and Valere with the release of Throes of the Watchmaker, a free expansion scheduled for May 20th.

A free expansion full of exciting content

This new content, which can be obtained at no additional cost for players who already have the game, promises to add about 8 hours of gameplay with fresh and exciting stories. In this expansion, the protagonists move to a circus setting, where they take on the new classes of Juggler and Acrobat, facing a variety of villains and challenges. Players will be able to enjoy new dungeons, mini-games, and puzzles, all while maintaining the humor and fantasy that characterize the original work.

One of the most notable features of Throes of the Watchmaker is the inclusion of Arty, a robotic companion whose aesthetic is reminiscent of the iconic character Robo from Chrono Trigger. In addition, the soundtrack will feature a special collaboration with Yasunori Mitsuda, the renowned composer of the Chrono series, which will surely elevate the musical experience of the DLC even further.

With this release, Sea of Stars concludes its post-launch support cycle, after introducing the DLC Dawn of Equinox at the end of last year, which included cooperative play for three players and multiple improvements. From now on, the studio will focus on a new project, leaving an indelible mark on the indie game catalog of the season.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the recent success of Sandfall Interactive, has captured the attention of both players and critics, achieving an impressive milestone of over 500,000 units sold. Despite its release in a highly competitive market, especially in the shadow of Oblivion: Remastered, the game has received near-universal acclaim, even positioning itself as a strong contender for the Game of the Year title.

The DLC was not planned, but it could very well happen

Jennifer Svedberg-Yen, the lead writer of the game, has shared some updates about the future of the title on Instagram, where she has addressed players’ concerns about the possibility of downloadable content. Although Svedberg-Yen has made it clear that there are currently no concrete plans for a DLC, she mentioned that Sandfall Interactive’s intention has always been to assess the community’s response before making definitive decisions.

In her messages, Svedberg-Yen expressed: “Nothing concrete that I can say at this moment, honestly, we are still trying to process everything that is happening. We have always said that if there is a strong desire from the players, we would love to do something more, and based on the response so far, I would say the chances are good.” This statement has generated expectations among the game’s fans, who see the potential to expand the experience offered.

The success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is not only measured in sales but also in its positive reception, suggesting that the path for a DLC could be more than clear. With the community showing strong interest in the game, the conditions seem favorable for Sandfall Interactive to evaluate future additional content, although, as is common in the industry, the details about what could be included remain uncertain.

To celebrate this launch, the base game of Crusader Kings 3 is available with an attractive 70% discount, which has boosted its sales on Steam. Currently, the title ranks as the seventh best-selling game both in the United States and globally, a significant increase of over 70 places compared to last week. This sales boost suggests that players are excited to explore the new dynamics offered by the expansion.

The DLC not only diversifies gameplay options, but also provides a new bookmark that allows players to take on the role of Temujin, who would later be known as Genghis Khan. This addition will offer a unique perspective on a crucial moment in history, allowing players to engage in the strategy and expansion of the Mongol Empire.

With the new update, Crusader Kings 3 positions itself not only as an engaging game but as a fascinating corner to explore strategies and dynamics that reflect the complexity of nomadic societies of the era. As more players join this experience, the game’s landscape will be enriched with their stories and challenges in the vast Eurasian steppe.

The DLC for Lies of P promises to be as long as full games

Since its release in 2023, Lies of P has surprised the gaming community, solidifying Round8 Studio’s position in the competitive soulslike genre, traditionally dominated by FromSoftware. This action RPG, which reimagines the classic tale of Pinocchio, has been acclaimed by critics and players alike, bringing with it a dark atmosphere and intense combat that have captured the imagination of many.

A DLC that promises many hours of fun.

Recently, it was announced that the highly anticipated DLC, titled Overture, is scheduled to be released this summer. During a presentation at the latest State of Play, a first look was given at some of the new bosses, weapons, and environments that will be available in this expansion. According to the game director, Jiwon Choi, Overture will offer between 15 and 20 hours of additional content for those who are already veterans of the title.

Overture will not only expand the narrative of Lies of P, but it will also serve as an interconnected prequel to the original story. Choi emphasized that this expansion aims to complete the experience of the base game, a challenge that the team faced with dedication. “Developing the expansion was a joint effort to choose the best content,” Choi mentioned, highlighting the importance of maintaining high quality across all the material offered.

An interesting aspect is that Overture will not be related to the final scene of the base game, which has led to speculation about the possibility of a sequel. According to Choi, many elements that were not included in Lies of P will be developed in this expansion, which could open new narrative avenues for future projects. Players will be able to access this DLC once they complete chapter 9, allowing a journey to the past in the unsettling city of Krat, before it falls into chaos.

A bunch of new improvements are coming to Xbox… only for Xbox Insider Program users

Selected users of the Xbox Insider Program have the opportunity to try Game Hubs, a new feature that Xbox is evaluating before its wider release. This new system is activated by selecting a game, generating a hub that includes relevant statistics, such as friends who are playing, recent captures, upcoming events, and available downloadable content. In this way, players will have to go through this hub before the game starts, which could slightly change the startup experience.

How to become an Xbox Insider

The default design of Game Hubs allows users to launch the game directly from the hub, which adds an extra step compared to directly starting a game. However, players who wish to restore the original settings and avoid this additional step can do so by modifying the options in “My games and apps,” then in “Settings,” and subsequently in “Games and apps.”

Currently, Game Hubs is available only to those in the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring of the Xbox Insider Program, and it will become a mandatory option starting March 25, 2025. Although the functionality presents interesting elements, such as the ability to receive notifications about DLCs immediately, there are also concerns among players about whether this new feature may significantly slow down the process of starting games.

Developers are seeking user feedback during this testing phase. The community is being invited to share their opinions and experiences through open questions in the comments. This interaction could help shape the future implementation of Game Hubs. As it stands, it is a topic of discussion among players whether they are truly willing to use this functionality or if they prefer to maintain direct access to their games.

Dune Awakening confirms release date and that it will be a subscription-free MMO

After a long wait, Funcom has confirmed that its highly anticipated title, Dune: Awakening, will officially launch on May 20. The game, which is presented as a survival MMO set in the Dune universe, will have a launch price of 50 euros and will not require a monthly subscription. This decision aims to provide players with a more accessible experience without the additional costs that are often associated with large-scale titles.

No monthly subscriptions, but with DLCs

The creative director, Joel Bylos, emphasized that the game’s monetization strategy includes regular and free updates, as well as optional downloadable content. Through these updates, the development team plans to expand the game’s story, incorporating new features and quality of life improvements. Although specific prices for the DLC packages have not yet been confirmed, it has been anticipated that each major update will be accompanied by a paid content pack.

Players will also have the option to purchase a Deluxe edition for 70 euros, which will include a season pass with four DLCs, as well as other benefits. Those who choose the Deluxe or Ultimate editions will enjoy a five-day early access before the official release on May 20. This approach not only provides incentives for players but also helps balance the load on servers during the launch, thus improving the overall experience.

Unlike other titles from the company, such as Conan Exiles, which spent a year in early access before its release in 2018, Dune: Awakening will launch directly as a complete product. However, Funcom has stated that the game will follow a continuous development path, similar to Exiles, which has received updates and DLCs over eight years of active life.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard could arrive very soon on Xbox Game Pass

Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the latest title from BioWare, has not met the commercial expectations that Electronic Arts had projected. Despite being part of one of the most recognized franchises in the fantasy RPG genre, the game has had disappointing performance, leaving many players dissatisfied with its offering. This situation has led to it being considered a failure for EA, which hoped it would become a milestone within the genre.

Very clear signs that it could arrive soon on the Xbox service

To facilitate access and expand its audience, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is now available on the PS Plus Essential subscription, which is not a good indicator for a AAA game. Additionally, the title has started to appear in the PC Game Pass store, suggesting it may be coming to the platform in the near future. Through EA Play, which is part of PC Game Pass Ultimate, players also have access to a demo of the game, which could help attract new players.

On March 20, BioWare released a free DLC for PC consumers, which includes temporary weapon cosmetics for the character Rook. However, this content will only be available to those who purchase the game before April 9, 2025. To boost its presence in the market, Dragon Age: The Veilguard also features an attractive 50% discount in the Valve store, bringing its price on Steam to €29.99.

With these moves, EA and BioWare seem to be looking for new strategies to regain ground and rekindle interest in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Although the game has received mixed reviews, the effort to ensure its accessibility suggests that the developers are determined to improve the experience and its overall reception among RPG fans.

The long-awaited demo of the remake of Half-Life 2, titled Half-Life 2 RTX, is now available for free on Steam for everyone who owns the original game. However, this new content has not been developed by Valve, but by Orbifold Studios, a collective of developers that includes teams from previous projects related to Half-Life 2, such as Half-Life 2: VR and Project 17. The collaboration with NVIDIA has allowed for the inclusion of advanced technologies, such as ray tracing, remastered assets, and the recent DLSS 4, which offers multi-frame generation. But it seems that Valve’s absence has indeed been felt in the final experience.

The remake of what is already a classic

Despite its initial appeal, the demo has received mixed reviews, with only 59% of reviews on Steam rating it positively. Users have reported performance issues, including significant graphical glitches and input latency, leading some to describe the experience as unplayable. Some players have expressed concern about whether the DLC could be seen as a marketing vehicle for NVIDIA hardware, adding that it often seems to be optimized only for the latest GPUs from the brand.

The download size of the DLC, which reaches 50 GB, could also be an obstacle for many users, adding to the criticism towards the overall experience of the revamped game. While developers are looking to release patches to address these issues, players find themselves in a sort of limbo, as the combination of expectations and the reality of performance has left some disappointed.

With the hope that future updates will improve the situation, many are wondering if the game will be able to reach its full potential or if it will remain limited by its current performance constraints. The community, for now, is divided between nostalgia for the classic and modern development expectations.
