Although there is still more than half a year left, it is better to give advance notice: April 8, 2026, will mark an important milestone in the history of Genshin Impact, as the popular action RPG and open-world game developed by HoYoverse will no longer be playable on PS4. This decision will affect more than 40 million active users of the console, who will not be able to access the title or receive updates after that date. The company has justified this change due to performance limitations, the size of the application, and various technical barriers that have made it unsustainable to maintain the game on Sony’s previous generation platform.

Committing to take the step to the new generation

As part of this process, support withdrawal will begin on September 10, 2025, when Genshin Impact will no longer be available for download on the PS Store. Additionally, on February 25, 2026, all extra content, including DLCs and downloadable items, will be removed. However, players will be able to access the content they purchased until those dates until the final closure of the game on PS4.

HoYoverse has indicated that users with shared accounts will be able to continue their progress from compatible platforms such as PS5, PC, or mobile devices. However, it is important to highlight that items purchased in the PS Store that have not been claimed must be retrieved from a PS5. This condition reinforces the need for players to migrate to new platforms as soon as possible.

Since its launch, Genshin Impact has generated over a billion dollars annually and has revolutionized the video game market, setting a trend towards the transition to new generations of consoles. The decision to discontinue support on PS4 reflects the reality of the industry, where more and more developers are choosing to focus on next-generation platforms. With time running out, PS4 users still have a window to say goodbye to the title that has left an indelible mark on the gaming world.
