Annapurna Interactive presented the first game from Great Ape Games at last night’s State of Play. Entitled The Lost Wild, it invites us to explore an island where a research center has been reclaimed by nature… and dinosaurs.

We will have to use stealth and ingenuity to survive in a survival horror game where we must evade dinosaurs within our capabilities in a tense and terrifying experience.

A game that aims to be terrifying and realistic

The most interesting thing about The Lost Wild’s proposal is that Great Ape Games is made up of veterans from Creative Assembly, the creators of Alien: Isolation. A game considered one of the peaks of stealth and horror games, where the alien from the movie Alien chased us through a spaceship and forced us to hide, evade it, and find a way to distract its attention.

With a strong emphasis on exploration and survival, one of its biggest selling points is that dinosaurs are represented realistically and in a way never seen before for these enormous creatures. Acting like wild animals and not like monsters, the game’s interest will lie in the fact that each dinosaur will have its own behavior, conduct, and tendencies. Forcing us to observe them and act according to how they are most likely to behave. Even if it is never completely certain how they will do so.

With a generic release date of 2027, The Lost Wild is a must-have title for fans of stealth and survival games, horror games, and of course, dinosaurs. Even if we still have quite a bit of time before we can sink our teeth into it. Or for it to sink its teeth into us.

The director of the original Ghost in the Shell movie is a fan of video games, but not in the way you expect

The renowned Japanese director Mamoru Oshii has shared his deep fondness for Fallout 4, revealing that he has dedicated nearly 10,000 hours to the game, making it his favorite title. The renowned Japanese director Mamoru Oshii has shared his deep fondness for Fallout 4, revealing that he has dedicated nearly 10,000 hours to the game, making it his favorite title. In a recent celebration of the 30th anniversary of Ghost in the Shell, Oshii explained that he has played approximately 2,000 hours on PlayStation and another 8,000 on Steam. He emphasized that Fallout 4, for him, is “a game that seems to have been created according to my own wishes,” especially thanks to its VATS targeting system, which suits his play style.

Obsessed with the game, not with its story

Despite his extensive hours played, Oshii has opted for a singular approach: he has decided to ignore the main story of the game and the different factions, leaning towards a more solitary and survival-focused playstyle. His experience is based on exploring the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout 4 without commitments to organizations like the Brotherhood of Steel, which he even describes as a parallel to the Nazis, and he destroys it every time he encounters it on his path.

Oshii has expressed his opposition to joining any of the factions in the game, representing a kind of lone wolf who prefers to survive as directly as possible, even if that means being hunted by creatures like Deathclaws or raiding raider hideouts. This particular way of playing highlights the flexibility and lasting appeal of Fallout 4, which allows players to explore very varied and personalized styles.

The way Oshii relates to the game reflects not only his passion but also a deep critique of how violence is presented in RPG games. Through his journey through the wasteland, he finds an experience that, although extreme and isolated, is deeply satisfying.

Arc Raiders has a release date for its first major event

The highly anticipated winter event Cold Snap for Arc Raiders will launch on December 16, as announced by Embark Studio on their blog. This update not only introduces a new map condition called “snowfall,” but it will also include a special event titled Flickering Flames, a new raider deck, and new missions for players.

A new map condition will make us suffer even more in the game

The “snowy” condition promises to transform the dynamics of the game, as players will have to manage their exposure to extreme temperatures. There has been speculation about how this new mechanic will affect gameplay, suggesting that prolonged exposure to the elements could result in fatal consequences, such as freezing. The use of tools like incendiary grenades could be a vital strategy to warm up in critical moments.

In addition, Cold Snap will mark the end of the current roadmap for Arc Raiders, raising expectations for future game updates in 2026. Although there are rumors that wearing appropriate clothing could affect the characters’ cold resistance, which could imply a system of microtransactions for cosmetics, it is considered unlikely that this option will be implemented due to criticisms related to “pay-to-win” gameplay.

This winter event can be seen as the closest to a Christmas celebration that the game has had, and although the tone of Arc Raiders is dark in a post-apocalyptic world, the introduction of these new mechanics could attract both new players and veterans looking for a renewed challenge. As enthusiasts eagerly await the arrival of the event, there remains uncertainty about how the game will evolve in the future.

Brendan Greene, known as the creator of one of the most successful titles in the video game industry, Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), is about to launch his new project. Prologue: Go Wayback! will be available in early access in a few hours, allowing players to experience an almost complete version of the game. This survival title is set in a procedurally generated environment that spans 64 km² and features roguelike elements, where players must reach a weather station while facing various environmental challenges.

A survival game that promises to revolutionize the genre

The technical aspects of Prologue are remarkably advanced. Developed in Unreal Engine 5, the game aims to offer visually stunning and realistic environments, thanks to an artificial intelligence system that generates maps quickly and efficiently as part of Project Artemis. This promises to create an immersive experience, where each game will vary based on the randomness of the environment, keeping players on constant alert.

The game’s dynamics include changing weather conditions and a day-night cycle that influences gameplay. Players will need to manage their body temperature against the cold, as well as search for food and drinking water to survive, which adds a level of challenge and realism to the experience. The game’s HUD will be minimalist, forcing users to rely on tools like compasses to navigate this vast open world.

Since it will be released in early access, the price is expected to be reasonable, although it is also likely that players will encounter some bugs during the initial experience, something common in this type of releases. With the launch just hours away, the anticipation within the gaming community is palpable.

One of the most chilling horror games of the last decade will receive an unexpected sequel

Fans of horror and survival have reasons to celebrate, as a sequel to Darkwood, the acclaimed game by Acid Wizard Studio released in 2017, has been announced. This new installment will be developed by Ice-Pick Lodge, known for their work on Pathologic, under the supervision of the original studio, Acid Wizard Studio. This change comes after Acid Wizard’s decision not to continue development internally due to difficulties in internal collaboration among its members.

We return to the post-Soviet sinister forests

Darkwood 2 promises to be a more intense experience, with significant improvements in sound effects and lighting, elements that were key to the disturbing atmosphere of the original title. In addition, the sequel will include new creatures that will threaten the player and even more challenging scenarios, expanding the Darkwood universe to scorched deserts and dying seas, where exploration will be paramount.

The game will maintain its focus on survival, where players must gather resources and craft weapons during the day to protect themselves at night in a hostile environment, all without mission indicators to guide their path. Like its predecessor, Darkwood 2 could play with the minds of users, creating situations of tension and terror that will test them, raising philosophical questions about humanity in a decaying world.

Although a release date has not yet been announced, interested parties can add Darkwood 2 to their wishlist on Steam. Gustaw Stachaszewski, co-founder of Acid Wizard Studio, expressed that while handing over the development was a difficult decision, they trust that Ice-Pick Lodge will be able to deliver a worthy continuation of their original work. With the promise of a delivery that promises new challenges and a terrifying atmosphere, fans of the game will be eager for more news in the future.

The extraction shooter genre continues to show untapped potential, reflected in the imminent release of two significant titles: Marathon from Bungie and Arc Raiders from Embark. Both games have conducted playtests simultaneously, providing developers the opportunity to compare their decisions and player reactions to their respective approaches.

Between doing it one way or another, they chose better

Virgil Watkins, design director of Arc Raiders, commented on the coincidence of the tests, highlighting that it turned out to be an excellent opportunity for a comparative analysis. “It was a great A/B test for us, as they made decisions that we did not, and vice versa,” explained Watkins, suggesting that the opportunity to observe how players responded to different design decisions was enriching.

Despite this promise, not all analysts are convinced. Tyler Wilde, editor-in-chief of PC Gamer, has expressed his skepticism about whether the market can sustain two extraction shooters, a genre that, by its nature, is not particularly casual. “Both studios need their extraction shooters to be a success,” Wilde stated, adding that there might be insufficient demand for both games.

In addition, the design director of Arc Raiders praised the artistic style of Marathon, expressing curiosity about its future evolution. “I found the artistic style very evocative… I hope to see more of that in the future,” he commented, highlighting the importance of aesthetic value in video game development. Although both titles have notable differences, comparisons are inevitable in a competitive market that seeks to capture attention in a genre that still has much to offer.

The survival horror game Dementium: The Ward, originally released in 2007 for Nintendo DS, is about to receive a remaster for PC. This new version, which will be available on Steam starting October 27, promises to offer support for 4K resolution and various retro display options, allowing players to experience the title with a nostalgic touch. The developers at Renegade Kid have also included settings that simulate CRT screens, which could excite fans for the portable horror experience on modern platforms like the Steam Deck.

A cult work of the most perverse

Dementium, considered a cult classic, stood out at a time when there was a scarcity of horror games on Nintendo’s handheld. The game puts you in the shoes of an amnesiac trapped in a hospital infested with zombies and grotesque creatures, where players must use various weapons and tools to survive. Its unique focus on narrative and gameplay helped cement its status within the gaming community.

Initially, Renegade Kid tried to sell the idea of Dementium to Konami as a Silent Hill title. However, their proposal was dismissed, according to the studio director, Jools Watsham. This snub did not stop the developers, who later attempted a new pitch with a different engine, although Konami was reluctant to venture into the horror market for the Nintendo DS.

Interestingly, although Dementium shares some similarities with Doom 3 in terms of gameplay and atmosphere, it developed its own mythology. With the arrival of this remaster, players will not only be able to relive the story and terror of 2007, but they will also explore a title that has maintained its relevance thanks to its innovative approach within the horror video game genre.

If you like survival games, it's because deep down you're just a little monkey, according to the designer of this popular survival game

Anthony Gallegos, designer of Subnautica 2, has used an unusual metaphor to describe the human connection with survival games, suggesting that “we are all little monkeys.” During a recent interview with Edge magazine, Gallegos explained that this idea resonates with the human nature of seeking shelter and food, essential attributes in survival games that attract a wide audience. The title Subnautica 2, which is expected to launch in Early Access in 2026, has faced recent turmoil following the sudden firing of several of its creators, which has triggered a call for a boycott from some fans.

We are all little monkeys

Gallegos also shared an anecdote that underscores the accessibility of survival games. He recalled a moment when he observed a child playing Astroneer without any prior guidance. To his surprise, the child managed to build a complex base, which led him to conclude that the mechanics of these games are simple enough to attract both children and adults.

In a remarkable turn in the video game development landscape, Krafton has acquired Last Epoch, a popular action role-playing game. The game’s development leader, referring to the recent controversy surrounding Subnautica 2, expressed confidence that the communication challenges affecting their project will not be repeated. “There is a lot of misinformation,” he commented, suggesting that the situation may have been misinterpreted by the public.

As Subnautica 2 fans await more news about the game, the video game industry closely watches how this multi-layered story unfolds, marked by creativity, challenges, and uncertainty about the future of the series.

The recent phenomenon of the video game Palworld has captured the attention of players, especially after the legal controversy involving Nintendo due to its similarities with Pokémon. Dictionary being a survival and crafting game, has managed to reach up to 100,000 concurrent players on Steam in the last week, standing out as a strong proposal in the independent scene.

Terraria arrives at Palworld in style

The latest update of Palworld, titled Tides of Terraria, has been well received by the community. This version incorporates a wealth of content inspired by Terraria, including new equipment, dungeons, and enemies, which significantly enriches the gaming experience. Additionally, original elements have been added such as three new islands, a fishing minigame, and a system for dismantling marine waste, which diversifies the options for players.

The collaboration between the developers of Palworld and Terraria arose from a “cold” direct message between the teams, suggesting a natural connection between both titles. Both are indie games that have resonated in the crafting and survival sector, featuring the aesthetic of colorful monsters and lush forests. Although a release date has not been announced, Terraria is expected to receive thematic additions inspired by Palworld in its upcoming update 1.4.5.

For now, Palworld is available on Steam at a promotional price of €21.74 until July 10. This crossover between two independent video games, although set in deep worlds, invites players to immerse themselves in a shared and creative experience, breaking down barriers between titles that, at first glance, might seem like competitors rather than allies.

If you like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, but you would prefer it to be a survival game, this is your game

RDBK Studios has revealed its upcoming game, Renown, an ambitious survival title set in an open-world medieval environment that will debut in early access between July and September 2025. This new release promises to blend semi-realistic combat, intensive building mechanics, and a focus on PvP, aiming to attract fans of the genre that has seen a surge in the last decade.

Realistic, but about survival, and with an interesting twist

The world of Renown encompasses a six-kilometer map inspired by a European medieval setting, with elements that evoke real history, such as structures and weapons from the era. This environment will not only be occupied by castles and villages but also by constructions made by players, who will start with basic resources.

The combat experience is based on a simplified combo system that will allow players to perform attacks and blocks swiftly, combining feints and strategies instead of relying solely on the chaos of random attacks. This mechanic aims to make combat more strategic and less predictable, a feature that may remind players of other games like Chivalry and Mordhau.

While the game is in alpha state and has a way to go, RDBK Studios’ intentions are clear: to evolve Renown over the coming years, including the incorporation of elements such as mounted combat and weather dynamics. PvP interactions will focus on maintaining a competitive and dynamic experience, with future events that encourage alliances and rivalries among players.

As its launch approaches, RDBK Studios hopes to attract a solid player base that values base building and combat in this fascinating medieval environment, where every decision can be crucial for survival and domination on the battlefield.
